I've a 2003 1.7L with BMXA auto trans. Shifts up and down OK except for going up from 2nd to 3rd when there is a flare in the rpm. Goes into gear eventually (slow to change) or if I back off the gas a little. Replaced correct amount and type of fluid (Honda ATF). Replaced the double solenoid block on the front of the trans. Also has a slight whine when cold and in neutral but lessens when put into drive. Any suggestions before I take to pulling the unit and doing an internal inspection or rebuild?

Sounds like a typical 7th gen AT failure issue to me.

Are there any DTC codes?
Try changing the solenoids in the passenger side, they are AB shift solenoids.
