Cracked block? And damage combustion chamber

Hello, I just got my hands on this 2004 honda civic vp, the car was loosing coolant and was given to me because the previous owner did not want to deal with it anymore. I took the risk and decided to get it and do a engine block test and confirmed that exhaust gases were gettting into the radiator.
i purchased a head gasket and started the job(before i did, i also did a coolant pressure test and notice the pressure dropping slowly but couldnt find any sign of coolant anywhere on the floor)long story short, i got everything back together and started cleaning the engine block behind the exhaust manifold and noticed something when i was cleaning where the alternator bracket bolted on, a CRACK!!! I was just wondering of anybody has seen anything like this, am I screwed? Is this something to worry about? If anybody can help it would be much appreciated!

Could it be that someone overtightened the fastener thats why it cracked ?

The head also had a weird like gouge on number 3 cylinder, at first i thought it was carbon, but took a look closer and seen the aluminum was distorted.

Did you get the head machined? That's probably the headgasket issue.
that mounting boss needs to be tig welded back on. Theses cars are finicky with need the alternator mounted securely.
Might be better to just get another engine, throw a fresh timing belt and water pump before you dump it in the car

re: Cracked block? And damage combustion chamber

Is it actually a crack or just imperfections from the block casting? Hard to tell from the picture.

Thanks to all the replies,
Unfortunately i didnt take the head to get machined. Im hoping that the cracks are just inperfections from the casting. We will see at startup what happens i guess.

Re: Cracked block? And damage combustion chamber

is there any signs of coolant leakage around that "crack"?
if no, that is not the place the coolant is leaking.
Was the coolant overflow tank full?

Re: Cracked block? And damage combustion chamber

@sdaidoji, i finally got a chance to turn the car on. So far no leaks (from crack,i dont even thnk its a crack) or HG. Looks like it was just the gasket (we will see)thanks to everyone. Fingers crossed.

I will post a picture of the old gasket i took off.I am still a little concerned about the pitting on the head, but i made sure it was not in the path of the fire ring. Time will tell.
