Inaccurate Speedometer
Hi everyone. I have just recently purchased my first Honda car, and the indicated speed is all over the place. I have the correct wheel and tyre size fitted (185/70/14)
When I purchased the car it had 175/60/14 tyres fitted, which I didn't realize were wrong until I checked my speed with GPS, and noticed the speedometer was out.
Here are the indicated speeds (after I have fitted new and correct size tyres) and the RPM, next to the GPS speed.
110 kph - 3300 rpm, GPS shows 102 kph
119 kph - 3600 rpm GPS shows 110 kph
I forgot to write down the rpm, but at 60 kph indicated the GPS says 58 kph. There is no consistency here. I have never owned a car with the speed out so much. does anyone know were the speed sensor is? could this be the problem? or could it be with the dash cluster? Thanks in advance.

Re: Inaccurate Speedometer
My 2000 is like that too, in town it's close enough, and on the highway I'll either set it to the GPS or set it to the speedo if I'm not using the gps
Re: Inaccurate Speedometer
Yes it's quite strange. I've been using the GPS ever since I have bought the car and it is super annoying. I would of thought an accurate speedometer would be a safety item on a "road worthy check"
Re: Inaccurate Speedometer
Could anyone recommend a cheap good scan tool? Are the ones that blutooth from phone anygood?
I believe the Honda Dealer scan tool is way to read and change the speed, that's just not really an option for me.

Re: Inaccurate Speedometer
all speedos have a 10% difference range
the dongle for phones? yeah they good. I prefer bluetooth, the WIFI models cut my phone connection
get the torque app for it

Re: Inaccurate Speedometer
There's allowable tolerance. It was never a visible "problem" until GPS units started showing speed.
