a few problems with 2002 civic lx

Hi, first timer here so I apologize in advance for any rudeness.. but I need some insights for a newb DIYer.

I got some problems for Canadian '02 LX civic (bought for CA$550 and spending more and more... endless money pit!!)

1. High beams don't work. Everything else works- blinker, low beam, side marker light?(the orange light that's beside headlight).

2. Lower-left side of Instrument panel background lights are gone. I've done some search and people are saying it's T5 socket with 2721 bulbs. Planning to swap all of it to amber lights, will these fit?
Amazon Amazon

3. It's gone now but there was weird electric buzzing sound coming behind the glove box. It happened even when engine's off with key at ON position.
link for video(thought it was coming from fan but later confirmed it's behind glove box): https://photos.app.goo.gl/EnzhRBkLrY83bZRR8

4. Not often, but sometimes it's really hard to turn the key in the ignition, with steering locked. I usually shake it a bit while forcing the key to turn but I'm starting to worry if there's some major issue with this case.

Some insights or even walk-throughs of how to fixing these issues would be very greatly appreciated, thank you!

1) are you sure both bulbs aren't just burned out?
do your DRLs work?
Does the high beam indicator work?
Otherwise start checking fuses and wiring.

2) I thought they were 168 bulbs but I could be wrong, personally I would just put the normal bulbs in Toronto Honda parts.com allows you to look up what the OEM part number is, can use that for cross reference.

3) that's probably a relay buzzing, check all your important electrical connections and make sure they're clean tight and shiny. Could be the relay is starting to fail.

4) try some graphite lube in there, otherwise the lock probably needs to be retumbled. Could also pull the tumblers right out. Means you can start the car with a screwdriver but it's a 17 year old car, probably not much of a target for theives

Re: a few problems with 2002 civic lx

1) Well, I changed headlight bulbs one month ago and low beams are working perfect. Does high beams use separate bulbs?
Previous owner taped CEL and other places on the dash so I'll have to take them out to see it.

2)
this is the video I found, the guy says 2721. And I liked the BMW's amber dash lighting so trying to mimic that

3) Where should I try to find those connections?

4) Thanks, will try to lube them

I had buzzing in the glove box and light issues before, this fixed it.

may not me your issue but it's easier than it looks.

O2 had a dual filament bulb so what mac posted may be what you need, or it could be a wiring problem

You can remove the tumbler to keep it cheap and since it has a chipped key it will only be able to be started with a programmed key.

My 01 had a chipped key. It was new for the 7th gen in 01 since it was so easy to steal 6th gens. Screw driver and hammer is all you needed.

Thanks, I'll have to try going to pick n pulls to pullout DRL modules and relays since I'm heading there anyways for trunk's locking mechanism...

Re: a few problems with 2002 civic lx

Okay, bit of update now.

Took off tapes from cluster and now I can see "DRL" icon being lit.

It's lit until I turn my low beams on.
When I flick the light **** back and forth to high beams, I don't see any high beam icon on cluster.
I did swapped fuses with others with high beam fuse and it didn't changed anything.

I now have used DRL module, and two PGM-FI relays. Should I disconnect negative terminal of battery to replace them?

Also... SRS light is on so I'll have to fix that next too.

that's normal, do your DRLs work?

You should. However I personally wouldn't bother.
Do you have a multi meter and do you know how to check continuity? You should check if the switch has continuity for the high beam circuit

My understanding is DRL is dimmed high-beam, but I don't see any headlight unless I turn the light **** to marker lights or low beam.

I don't have multi-meter, but I could try asking around. Where and should I contact the pins to?

Re: a few problems with 2002 civic lx

Check your combination light switch on the steering column for failure.

Get the code read for the SRS warning light. Common issues are a bad driver's seat belt buckle switch and the passenger's OPDS. Also check for the airbag recalls, of which there were a few.

so you would take the switch out of the steering column and test the switch for continuity across the different positions. There's a sticky in the main 7th Gen section with a link to download the factory repair manual, that will tell you what pin is what

Thanks, I got a zip file of various manuals. I can't seem to find section regarding 'headlight', though I see the word in glossary. Will continue to dig from manuals

Re: a few problems with 2002 civic lx

Before fiddling with combination switch, I replaced the DRL module with the one I pulled out from a junk car.

Now, high beam works! However, DRL still doesn't work.

Starting to think if prev. owner disabled it somehow?

Posting the pictures of old DRL module that's been replaced if anyone's interested.

Soooo after fiddling a little bit more, DRL works too now.

But now DRL light in dash is off all times, but high beam indicator's on when DRL's on.
Guess I can't complain?

Fuses for the DRL:

Under-Hood Fuse/Relay Box #15 (15A) and #17 (15A).

Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box #3 (10A) and #12 (7.5A)

I believe it's stock, and DRL works now.
Just highbeam indicator's now turning on instead of DRL light.

I'm not sure how the DRLs work on the Civic but on my '06 Accord the high beams are used for the DRLs. When the DRLs are on the high beam indicator is also on.

I think you have it all fixed properly, try this:
with the car off and the parking brake on start the engine.
Drl light on now?

Engine started when parking brake is on: DRL light is on.
Take off the parking brake: headlight turns on with blue highbeam indicator
Apply parking brake again: headlight stays on with blue highbeam indicator (DRL)

I think it's fixed! Cheers to all helped me. Next step would be replacing instrument panel bulbs. I'll start working on it after I'm done moving to new place (can you believe a landlord turning off the washing machine just because I wash my clothes twice a week? )

From repair manual 22-87.
So currently, lower left bulb is out so I can't see coolant gauge in night- along with ODO meter. I think all the other indicators work but basically, I'm looking to swap the bulbs to these:
Amazon Amazon

What if I swap ALL the bulbs to this, would they fit and change the colors of indicators too?
