2003 Civic ignition switch. Used OEM or aftermarket?

Hello.

The ignition tumblers are totally shot in my 2003 civic. The dealership wants an astounding $800 to replace it. I can get a knockoff one on Ebay for $60 and install it myself, but my dealer said that because it isn't OEM, there would only be a 50/50 chance they would be able to program the key. Does that sound right to you? Here's the knock ignition switch I'm referring to:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Ignition-Swi...909944315658af

Would you risk getting that one and hope the dealer can program the key, or would you find a second hand OEM ignition switch?

Just take the tumblers out, you'll be able to turn the switch with a screwdriver but because of the immobilizer it won't start without the key. No programming needed.

Or if your super retentive , buy a Honda High Security Pinning Kit (A-19-108) for $80 and replace all the pins and springs in your lock and keep your key.

Thanks for the replies.

Just addressing the tumbler itself seems to be the best way to go. I'm going to try getting it out today, then call some local locksmiths to see if they can repair it. If not, I'll order the pinning kit.

That's exactly what I ended up doing. It took a little a "MacGyverying", but after an hour and a half, I had her running and saved $800.

Thanks!
