Need help with Key Fob programming

I'm a Newby so please don't drill me on this. I purchased a car that came with no key fog. I bought an OEM used key fob from ebay.com. I went by the instructions and can't program it to save my life. I tried four times as what the instructions say and on the fourth its supposed to lock the doors ect. Well it doesn't . As I sat in my car trying to figure this one out above the rear view mirror there is this thing that looks like part of the alarm system. I press the button and it lights blue and I can turn it off . I have no idea what that does. can someone explain what this is and what else I can try to get my key fob to work. I put a new battery in it, when I press the button it lights up.

I also made sure the doors were closed as well when trying to program.

Re: Need help with Key Fob programming

That sounds like there's an aftermarket remote start/alarm installed. Your car may not have factory keyless entry. If you can find the remote start module and get a brand and model number you might be able to get remotes for it. The programming procedure is different

Does the blue light thing look like this?

Lower trim level generally didn't have key less entry. Sounds aftermarket though.

That's an aftermarket antenna. Look under your steering column for a module.

That particular antenna is a DEI brand one. Viper, Clifford, Python are the popular DEI brands.

EX should have factory key less but it may have been removed for the aftermarket system.
