surrender key for remote start?
I just got off the phone with a installer who told me that in order to install a remote starter I would have to give them a key so they can some how incorporate it into the system or override something using the chip in the key I supply. The problem is that I want to get this installed in my GF's car and she only has 1 valet and 1 regular key. I guess I can sacrifice the valet key but will most def need to get a replacement one. any truth in this?
this installer also told me that since i only want keyless entry and remote start he can use the factory remotes, is this true or is he just talking out his ***?

yeah, my friend has a tc and they needed a key for the start. he didn't get the keyless so they couldn't use his stock remote. so no sure on using the factory remote to unlock doors but there is truth to the key thingy...

hahaha jk....its not safe telling a public forum that kinda info man......
You can use a DEI 556U if you don't mind giving up a key, you can try the DEI 556H or 556I to not lose a key but I've heard of mixed results with both units. I would actually direct you to xpressvip.com, I installed one of their modules today and must say I am very impressed with the ease of installation and programming and the overall performance. This unit needs one key to learn and the benefit is it doesn't need a key to operate. Instructions weren't perfect but better than some other manufacturers I've dealt with. The specific application was the XK05. Worth looking into.

lol if you leave the key in a spot where someone could get it within 5 minutes you're an idiot. If you HAVE to leave a key, it would be common sense to bury the thing. Same reason my alarm brain is in an unconventional location.
