Last night at about 3:00 am I was on my way home from getting some food when my car just stalled. It was raining hard as hell. I have an Injen CAI with no bypass
. This guy helped me out by pushing my car with his truck I was able to get it to turn over, I just had to make sure my RPMs didnt drop. So I drove a little further and it shut off again. This time no sign of life. There was a slight burning smell, so I just put it in neutral and some guy pushed me to a parking spot. OWN3D! I called a friend of mine to take me to my house. I will most likely need to either rebuild my engine or get a new one.
So my question is: I have an 02 LX, should I get an EX engine. From what I have heard the EX is significantly slower than the LX. Would all I need is the engine and the ECU? If I keep my LX tranny the differentials would be better wouldnt they? Also if someone could send me a link to a site that sells engines I would appreciate it.
Oh, and I cant afford an K swap.

Same thing happened to "iceman" from SoCal.
The EX engine isn't significantly slower... one of the reaons why the EX models are slower than LX is due to weight. EX has moonroof and other cool gadgets that just slow the whole car.
IMO, just get an LX engine and save yourself headache. If you get an EX engine, i'm pretty sure you need a new ECU to activate the (almighty) VTEC.
Good luck!

definitely forget about the whole jump starting it thing. I hydrolocked a ex coupe, using a injen CAI and had to replace the whole motor.
broke connecting rods for all 4 cylinders, and bent my crankshaft.
I was also at 5 grand when it happened. Insurance company sued Injen for not even producing a Bypass valve, got money back, insurance claim off my record. good luck IKE

Today we went and took the spark plugs out hoping the we could get it to turn over and shoot water out, didnt work. Then we tried letting the water out of the oil pan, didnt work. So I am definetely gonna need a new engine.
I have full coverage and tomorrow I am gonna go put my stock intake back on. I will prolly try to get an D17A2, we'll see. I talked to the insurance company today and they said I need to get it towed to a shop and they will write me a check for the cost of that. They also said they will cover it and I will have to pay a $500 deposit.

The EX is not slower than an LX because of extra weight. The gear ratios are different, which may do it, but if you run the numbers....
LX weighs 2474 lbs with 115 HP... 1 HP must move 21.51 lbs. EX weighs 2554 lbs with 127 HP... 1 HP must move 20.1 lbs. All numbers from Honda.com (I punched the ratios) So an EX engine in an LX would be faster than an EX, but the extra weight of the sunroof is not enough to make the car slower... I can't remember what the final drive ratio is... that might do it, but I don't think an EX is slower than an LX if you have 2 people who know how to drive. Chances are.... you'd race to a draw.

SO i have an Injen intake now and if my engine Hydrolocks my insurance could sue Injen to replace my engine?OH, and boilmaker, i drive a DX and my car was completely stock (except 17" rims and body kit, no engine mods) and i killed an EX with exaust and header . both of us can drive good, both 5 speed and by oursleves in the car. My car weighs alot less than the EX but you pay for it when you have to lok ghetto rolling up the windows. lol
david...... i do not know how your insurance company would handle that, just get yourself a bypass valve, save the time and effort. I had to fight like woah to get a NEW engine, and not a reman....
if you need a good deal on a bypass valve, let me know

You obviously missed everything I said because I was on the money...
The EX final drive is 4.411
The LX/DX final drive is 4.111
THAT is what accounts for the LX possibly being faster. Once instance doesn't mean ****. You need at least 3 occurances for something to be scientifically justified, more is better.
The weight has nothing to do with it because I've already proven with numbers and equations that the EX has more than sufficient extra power to overcome its weight disadvantage, however the taller final drive that allows it to cruise at lower RPM (of sorts) keep it from accelerating as quickly. And an Intake and Header do nothing, so that doesn't matter at all.
Go ahead if you still don't believe me and prove me wrong. Prove with numerical fact that the extra 80 Lbs makes the difference. Even with the less weight in a DX, the power to weight is still 20.88 LB/HP, which is still higher than the 20.1 Lb/HP of an EX. So now you're drawing basically dead even as far as power goes... so what's left... The drive train... lower final drive makes the difference, exactly like I said up above. Besides that, there are still too many extraneous factors to consider.... a Gallon of gas weighs about 8 lbs... did you add that in? What about what you weigh? **** in the trunk? All things totally equal, the cars should run dead even.
