Honda civic 2004 O2 sensor

Hello, the issue is that my car consumes around 5-7 km/L of fuel, my car at max can go around 160 miles safely, since i bought it it had the check engine and the code was from the O2 sensor bank 1

i have replaced it but it didnt fix the issue because the cables were the problem, i have paused the fixing for around a year but now in around a week i am going with a guy that can fix it.

the thing here is that i dont know if from only a bad o2 sensor can make the car consume so much fuel, in pages and other places i found that ppl with my same car, same motor d17A1 get at least 10 km/l of millage and i dont know if someome else here on the forum can share with me his km/L or MPG

Just to inform i have changed the oil, replaced the head gasket, cleaned the inyectors with ultra sonic stuff and did every manteniance that i could but gas millage didnt improved

Re: Honda civic 2004 O2 sensor

That's a really low fuel economy. On my 2002 (granted, a D17A2, but still same generation), I was making 11-15 km/L at the end of that car's life.

Wouldn't hurt to try an ECM reset so it essentially resets the AFR calculation. It's free and takes less than a half hour.
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...-pcm-idle.html

One thing you'll want to try and look into is what your AFR (air/fuel ratio) is at (at wide open throttle, cruising, and idle/throttle closed coasting). WOT should be about 11.9 (slightly rich), cruising should be 14.7± (stoichiometric), idle/throttle closed coasting should probably peg high at ~30 (lean). If you're consistently running rich, that can explain the low fuel economy, and you'll have to dig around to find out what's happening

Might not be a bad idea to pull your spark plugs and see what they look like. Again, could give an indication of your air/fuel mixture

Just because I know it'll come up, what brand O2 sensor did you use when you replaced it? OEM/Denso is highly recommended since the D17s don't really like to play nice with non-OEM/Denso sensors.

If you have a scanner that reads live data, look for your fuel trims. These values are how much extra/less fuel is being added based on readings from the O2 sensor.

It seemed that i wrongly wrote my post, my O2 sensor from the bank 2 is totally static, it gives no values and its fixed, i replaced it with an autozone sensor and didnt work, then a denso one and it didnt work and then an used o2 from junkyard and it didnt work either.

i am almost 100% sure that a ground cable from the front 02 sensor is not working.

the spark plugs seemed fine the last time the mechanic checked em.

i will record a video of those values with my scanner.

As an additional reason that i might have a poor fuel economy could be the catalytic converter?, i have no acceleration issues but i will record a video too and share it here.

i will get the o2 wiring fixed next week, i will do some testing with the sensor and accelerate to know if i have a clogged cat and i will share it here, if my fuel economy gets better i will share the results.

Once i get the sensor to work i will restart the ecu, i undertood that i have to start engine, rev it up to 3k rpm until fan turns on and then idle for 5 mn

did you get one for 2004? up to 2002 is a narrow band, 2003+ uses wideband sensors.

Re: Honda civic 2004 O2 sensor

One problem I see with that listing are the OEM part numbers listed.
The first and 3rd part numbers are for the 01-03 VTEC downstream sensors (bank 2) for the D17A2 (VTEC), and are of the narrowband variety. The 2nd part number is the upstream sensor for the 01-05 Civic GX (natural gas). That said, that sensor is highly likely sending wrong signals to the ECU, causing a terrible AFR/fuel trim.

You should be searching for the part number 36531-PLM-306

curious to see that they sell these parts wrongly, how did you knew the exact serial number of the part that i am searching for?

I look up all Honda part numbers on online OEM parts dealers like hondaautomotiveparts.com (that one is my go-to)

Re: Honda civic 2004 O2 sensor

The secondary O2 sensor (the one on the cat) has no affect of fuel economy. I'm confused which one you replaced.

Re: Honda civic 2004 O2 sensor

That was me at first until I re-read the original post. OP mentions bank 1 sensor code, so upstream would be it

The one on the cat works perfectly or i think so at least, ig goes fron 0.7 to 0.92 i remember

I tried look for the A/F ratio but my scanner seems to not have that option, it has I/M or something like that

Re: Honda civic 2004 O2 sensor

the electrician has seen the car and told me that the wiring on the sensor was weird, the ones that i bought as you guys said previously in this post seems to be for different cars, i have asked my dealership for a replacement part but they said that they no longer have those because they are outdated.

i have searched in the internet in various places but all i can find are generic parts that they they are compatible but i am not really sure, the one amazon post that sold the OEM part is no longer avalaible and sites like hondaautomotiveparts dont ship to mexico

Are there any suggestions on to where i can get a good replacement?, the junkyard have a few civics but most of them are 4 doors but i will start asking there first.

Re: Honda civic 2004 O2 sensor

I have searched for hours for a compatible sensors, as a person said up in this thread, i need a wideband air fuel ratio sensor, i searched for the OEM part but is simply too expensive and some pages simply dont ship it to mexico

I have seen some alternatives at a reasonable price

The OEM codes were
36532pnda11
36531 PLE 003
And this one that has not a number in particular

online disponibility for DENSO 234-9005 seems to be rather extint here on mexico, in the next few days i will publish if it solved the issue or if didnt found one locally.

Update i tried another DENSO sensor 192400-1160 which is the original and it seems to not work, i will take it to the electric again and see where this takes me, the culprits that they told me that posibly be are

The harness wiring
The computer

At this point i am running out of options
