Question Oxygen sensor?!?

Ok, hey ya'll... i've taken my car into Honda *3* times now because I have a problem when i get gas.. my car doesn't start when I get gas. I have to keep trying and tryin and trying and then it dies like 12000 times when i finally get it started.. i take like 20 minutes @ the gas station. two people told me to check to O2 sensor, so i told the guys @ Honda that thats what i thought it was, but they said that the faulty O2 sensor wouldn't cause "that type of problem" so they replaced the gas cap and the ENTIRE evap. system, but i went to the gas station that same day i got my car back, and it still gave me trouble, and it seemed actually worse this time around... if anyone knows anything about O2 sensors, i'd certainly appreciate some help on this, some backup info to tell the guys @ Honda. thanks!

The O2 sensor has absolutely nothing to do with your car starting or not starting. I've driven a car for an entire year w/o an O2 sensor with no problems, except for a check engine light. I was still getting the same fuel mileage and performance as normal.

The O2 sensor is mainly used by the ECU to tune the A/F ratio for emissions. Depending on which car you're driving, driving in 'limp mode' can also make the ECU retard the timing and/or run rich. NOx emissions will probably be a bit higher than normal as well.
