Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt upgrade...

Hello everyone. I have a 2003 civic, with a D17A1 engine, I recently stripped the belt tensioner bolt threads (block), and inserted a 'Time sert' thread to fix it. Well, I broke that too, trying to get it to 33 ft-lb. I understand there is a replacement (longer) bolt that is an upgrade?!?! If so, what is the part #, so that I can order one??? I have searched a lot of threads looking for the part #, with no success. Also, since I stripped it twice now, what are my options??? This is a replacement engine, BTW. Thanks...

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt upgrade...

First, verify your torque wrench
Second, verify the required torque

Also, figure out the length of the bolt and just get a longer one

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt upgrade...

what type of torque wrench are you using?
I twisted my water pump bolts because I was using a higher end torque wrench, click type. The ones that uses the click, they need to be chosen by torque range. The regular bigger ones does not have enough sensitivity for low torque.
I had to use a needle beam type for lower torque bolts.

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt upgrade...

As far as verifying my torque wrench, it is a Craftsman Torque Wrench. It works great. I have been using it for years now, with no problem. The torque required is 33 ft-lbs.

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt upgrade...

again, what is the range? If it is on the edges, it might not work properly

Need like a 3/8 or 1/4 torque wrench

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt upgrade...

There are two different part numbers listed but I couldn't tell you what the difference is. Lengths are not given on the parts diagram. One says it's good for USA/CAN '03-'05 Civics, the other says it's for USA/CAN/JPN '01-'05 Civics.
