Engine noise help
Engine noise help
I got a gen7 2004 civic coupe 1.7l automatic recently and after getting a few parts and battery I started it up tonight and heard a knock, and a whine( belt noise I think) and another sound that I would describe as like the playing card kids stick on the spokes of their bicycle. I found 2 harness connections that are straight up melted off in one side, so assume those are not doing their job. And it’s missing bolts and probably a few small things like the brackets that hold cable lines in place. Also there is white smoke coming out, it stopped after a few min but when I hit the throttle a little it smoked more and I think I seen some leak out right where the exhaust manifold is on the engine. I made a little video for y’all. And I will do another in the daylight, I am no mechanic but I can definitely figure things out if I have someone who knows their **** guideing me. Please please help me out guys. I have not a lot of money and we’re going to move in a week to about 3 hours away and I would like to trust the civic to get there ok.
apparently I can only have 20mb files and the video is almost 200mb, and idk how to edit it from 1080p to lower so I guess I’ll have to figure that out asap

Re: Engine noise help
Upload it somewhere like YouTube and link the video. The other option is to condense the video length.
Are you having any overheating issues? Run the car for a bit and see what the coolant is doing. Is the level of the overflow reservoir beginning to rise?
Valve adjustment may be necessary depending on mileage. Check the oil level as well to make sure that’s not why. Excessive consumption could also be the cause of the smoke.
If I’m driving 3+ hours, I’d be sure to check the state of the timing belt, as well. That may also require replacing depending on when it was last done.

Re: Engine noise help
ok I will start with that, and try to get video link from YouTube I guess, or will like a zip app work? (I’m useing an iPhone for the first time trying to upload stuff lol) the whole engine is covered in oil it seems so I think that is the smoke from engine bay…. Like it burning in the exhaust.
