Hi Im new to the site. I got an old 2002 civic ex for cheap and when I went to check on the air filter the back clips wont shut. Then I realized that when I looked up youtube videos it normally has screws instead of clips. The vin of the car start with a 1 so it's made in the US. But the engine says D17A without a number after it so it must mean it's made in japan. I tried getting the OEM civic air filter from autozone but its the same thing as what was in there and wouldn't fit properly. Im guessing they have a different type of air filter outside of the US? How do I buy the right one I can't seem to find it. Im new to this and couldn't find info on my specific problem on here so just wondering if anyone knew.. I think this is not the original engine that was in the car. They might have gotten a replacement from japan or something idk... here are some screenshots of what I mean. this is what it normally looks like. it has bolts or screws holding it instead of clips. Just screenshot from google. This is whats in my car. the cover is a different shape and wont let a stock filter fit. Just screenshot also but you can tell the shape of the actual filter has to be different on mine.
I just want the right air filter but i cant find it anywhere. Help me out here sorry if this has been asked before but I didn't see it I tried looking I swear lol

it's common to find JDM engines for sale
USDM cars have the D17A2 for the EX model, D17A is the equivalent engine but JDM Market
typically, they would get only the engine and transfer the parts from the car
Maybe they did not transfer the intake and is using the Japanese intake...
not sure you can even get that filter here

Should be a part number on the JDM air filter. Sometimes the filter number is even stamped on the housing.
otherwise go to a junkyard and put the normal housing on.
Or put on one of those shiny tube intakes

the filter that was in there when i bought it wasnt the JDM one it was one for a USDM airbox which is why it didnt shut properly. But yeah i guess im getting a shiny tube thingy lol

yeah im having touble finding one. I may just do the suggested options. Either buy a stock airbox from a junkyard or get an aftermarket cai or something.
