allow a more direct air flow to the engine? rather than coming in and over then down? isnt it just a plastic divider than can be snipped off?

Rep Power: 0 Without that peice, the filter would be bypassed, and it would be like having no filter. The air will just pass through where the divider used to be since it will be easier than passing over the filter.

Rep Power: 0 Quite honestly I found that simply removing the bulky intake silencer and leaving the stock filter-box gave a nice deep roar to it and has the same butt-dyno results as my current intake (Ractive pipe with K&N cone filter). If you do anything thats what I'd do; Just remove the resonator.
As far as modding the filter box is concerned, you would in fact bypass your filter, which is a no-no. You could re-engineer the entire thing, which could have intersting results, but is not quite as easy as just yanking said resonator...... or do what zen_master said.... I think my way would have more noise and less crap under the hood, though.
Hey, with this massive peice of **** out of here I can see my tranny!!!!

Rep Power: 0 No lie, but a 2 inch hose from a shop vac fits into the inlrt hole on the air filter box perfectly and can run to the opening facing down into the hole behind the headlight and battery. True cold air with no water worries.

Rep Power: 280 yeah removing the resonator works great. i also removed the lil tube that was behind the headlight connected to the resonator and rigged that into the filter box. for a neat suprise pop the hood and hit the throttle a few times while your hand is near the tube. that thing sucks like a shop vac lol. i found a leaf at the bottom of my filter box once so i put some grille like stuff to prevent that from happening. i'm still using the stock air filter. would getting a k&n drop in filter make this work even better?

i took out the resonator too, and left the stock air inlet. in the resonator's place i made a tube with two 90degree bends that connects the airbox with the airinlet. no loss of torque, suckingin air from behind the headlight, not super loud at WOT like w/o resonaotor, but it is growlier, i like it. it feels the same as stock.
without the resontaor box it may give you a great sound a good flow to the filter at high revs but its still sucking in hot air. also, i felt a flat throttle response from it and since it doesnt give much more air velocity, low=end torque suffers. my pipe kinda gets rid of that.
i had a talk with boilermaker on his integra airbox adapt to his civic and looking at my mom's 7thgen Accord V6 it looks like it may fit also, but it is really big. it uses the same screen-type filter as our civics, but is bigger and the air inlet is like almost twice the size of the civics. plus, the air inlet is facing downward so that could be beneficial. i would have to adapt the larger TB openign on the aribox to the smaller oneon our civics and solve the problem of the up-ward facing TB. and since the accord's engine faces the other way compared to ours, ill have to do that too.
heres a pic of the stock 7thgen Accord V6 airbox.
