148lbs crankpulley bolt specs 2001 civic lx

Just did my timing belt and have seen the 14lbs then 90 degree turn for crank pulley bolt. 1aa auto specifies 148lbs in their how to timing belt video. Has anyone else done this? Mine is currently at the 148 foot lbs. 90 degree turn stuff really has me wondering how they came up with this stuff. Same as some head bolts.

Re: 148lbs crankpulley bolt specs 2001 civic lx

You should be fine with 148 lb ft. I have always just gone ~1 foot out on my breaker bar and put a good chunk of my weight on it then called it good enough. Yes it's not accurate but it works for me.

The 14 lb ft plus 90 degrees is for torque to yield bolts. These bolts literally stretch when going to extra 90 degrees. Most head bolts are this way nowadays. This is possibly one reason why the D series engine was notorious for bad head gaskets (no torque to yield head bolts).

I was under the impression that the actual spec was 181ft-lb. My torque wrench tops out at 150, so what I did was torque to 150 and take a breaker bar and give it a bit more

Tried to look it up in the service manual but it seems those pages are missing. The DIY thread says the 14 then 90 degrees so I assume that's correct. Didn't spend any more time searching lol

I have never seen a reference to go buy a new crankpulley bolt yet. Arent all tork to yield bolts a one use? 181ft pounds havnt ran across that spec yet. Yes I used the special tool, only I have the good special tool, not the one that has you using a breaker bar to hold the tool itself. I have the hex tool with super long handle on it with hole in hex nut made by k tools I think, and its cadmium plated or coated.

yeah Im good with 148lbs. I did enjoy busting off 5 crankpulley bolts in the wrecking yard in no time due to very good Ktools crank holder. I was even getting wow looks as people walked by. Felt lilke an olympic diver bouncing off the suprizingly good harbour freight pittsburg breaker bar.

Re: 148lbs crankpulley bolt specs 2001 civic lx

found it

that's where the 181ft-lbs came from. The alternate method is 14ft-lbs plus 90°

Yes my tool looks sorta like A in that picture. My handle though is not removable. The flat part of the handle on my tool is longer than the tool in picture. Still looking for a good picture of it. Made by K tools.
