Timing belt tensioner bolt wont tighten up need help
Timing belt tensioner bolt wont tighten up need help
I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX and I changed the timing belt and on the tensioner the bolt wont tighten up cant even get close to 33lb. When I took the bolt out it has shaving on the bolt. I tried a new bolt but it just slips when you start to get it tight. Small area to work in too I need help Thanks

Take the tensioner bolt to napa, ask them for a helicoil kit for that bolt. I had to get an m8x1.25 once and it was $45, but totally worth it. It'll give you instructions on how to use it, but more than likely youre not gonna be able to get to that hole with a drill if the engine is in the bay, if you cant get a drill, use a t handle and do it by hand.
Basically what youre gonna have to do is drill out the hole with the provided bit. then tap it with the provided tap, and then insert the heli coil with the provided tool, and then you trim the helicoil if necessary and break off the tang, and youre done, be sure to get a new bolt from honda.
If you dont feel comfortable doing in yourself you can call and ask a shop maybe, but youd have to tow the car there.

If its only shavings it may just be a few cross threads, I wouldn't drill that hole larger until I've tried tapping it first. Like I said last resort.

I dont mean to be rude, but thats not gonna help either, the bolt already has stripped the threads to where it keeps turning in the block. If it were just a few threads running a tap still wouldnt help at all, sticking a tap in there, which is just a different cut on the exact same size bolt and thread pitch wont help since theres nothing to cut into.
