Fuel pump problem

2003 honda civic lx sedan auto
Bought the car with a fried ecu. Green key light on the dash blinked constantly. (Alternator bolts weren't tightened) The fuel pump was also jumped on the relay under the glovebox. (Fuel pump wouldn't come on without) Changed the ecu and reprogrammed. Green flashing light went off. Removed the jump on the main relay and fuel pump still won't kick on. All the fuses are good. Relays are good. Checked everything with a power tester, everything has power except where it connects to the actual fuel pump under the back seat. Any ideas or suggestions on what could be the problem?

Re: Fuel pump problem

It ran like crap because it needed a new ecu. The guy had a paper clip on the relay making the fuel pump stay on constantly as long as the key was on. We changed the ecu, reprogrammed it..it runs better..so we were trying to figure out the fuel pump situation. Took the paper clip out checked a bunch of wires and such. Then this morning it won't start, even with the paperclip in as before.

Re: Fuel pump problem

so, wires were working, pump was working until you started the checks.
you can try to connect the wires directly to the fuel pump to see if it is still working (don't use the current cable, use some other wires - need to find out if either wiring or pump is the issue)

Re: Fuel pump problem

Update... been trying to figure it out. The paper clip was actually not right to jump the relay. So now it will start with the paper clip jumping the relay, but without the paper clip, the fuel pump will not kick on. SO fuel pump works.... but why won't it kick on without the paperclip jump?!

Check the wires.

Question - have you programmed the key to new ECU? green key flashing? it cuts fuel off

Re: Fuel pump problem

The green key on the dash was flashing before he programmed the key, after putting the new ecu in. Once programmed, it doesn't flash like before. I noticed a yellow and black wire ( ill try to post a pic) I wouldn't think this factory,... its looks to be spliced together. And comes from the main pgm-fi 2 (the blue relay) ill have to check tomorrow exactly where it's connected in there, ... but it splits into 2, and one goes with the rest of the wires to the taped up harness behind the radio and the other goes to another wiring harness to the right,... I will take more pics tomorrow, since it got dark. I'll post what I have. Idk if this has anything to do with the problem we're having

Re: Fuel pump problem

Check number 6 fuse (15 A) in the under hood fuse box?

It's no surprise there's a splice like that, what is surprising is that there's nothing covering it. It needs taped up so it isn't shorting out.
