head gasket replacement project

People,

removing the head, and wondering if I should remove cam sprocket before removing head from engine. Is there a place where one could place an open end wrench on cam to unbolt the sprocket? Maybe the sprocket should stay put?

Thanks, people.

I don't remove the cam gear unless it NEEDS to be removed.

Re: head gasket replacement project

Loosening the sprocket is easier if the belt is still on.

Lots of people have had engine failure due to contaminates and or improperly tighening that bolt back up.

So if your going to pull it, be sure to use brake cleaner and blue loctite and proper torque wrench when you put it back together.
