2001 Civic LX head Gasket Reinstall testing during assembly
2001 Civic LX head Gasket Reinstall testing during assembly
I will be installing a new Honda head gasket on this 1.7. Before disassembly the HG problems was diagnosed by applying compressed air to the cylinders which made the radiator level rise up in cyl #1.
How little can I reassemble before doing some testing on the HG to verify installation?
Thanks !

Most likely full reassembly before testing as you will want oil to coat block and internals during the post repair leakdown (cylinder injection) test.
Here's a good video on head gasket replacement tips:

While it's at the machine shop it would be a good time for new valve stem seals. The machinist should inspect for cracks, warpage and leaky valves.

I'm in upstate NY if someone has "a guy" for a machine shop. I don't know of any local to me. Otherwise I'll pick something out of the phone book.

You can get a surprising amount of information from the parts counter.
