Emissions below threshold. Help

I have a 04 civic dx Manuel trans and I just recently replaced the factory exhaust manifold with an aftermarket one. I know that the oem ones have the catalytic converter built in. since I changed it my car runs fine but my check engine light just came on today I don't remember the code off tops but it was "catalyst emissions below threshold" my new manifold don't have the catalytic converter built in any ideas on how to make the light go away? Is this bad for my car? Do I need to have a catalytic converter? Thanks for the help

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

It's bad for the environment.
You can't pass an emissions test without a good catalytic converter.
