Question Need Help. Valve cover coil screw broke!!!

I was Doing a Compression test on my 1.7l civic. once i finished up was was securing the last cylinder's Ignition coil with the black 10mm nut on Cylinder 1 that holds the coil down onto the spark plug. I accidentally went to tight and the screw snapped in half; i was able to to take out the broken screw park that was in the nut but i cannot screw it onto the screw because it isnt long enough. The screw is long enough for the coil to sit in but isnt long enough for the 10mm black nut to bolt on to old it down... when everything is put together the ignition coil is pretty snug and doesnt seem to move or lift. it isnt effecting anything and no misfires are happening. Im bothered to know my bolt is broken and really wanting to fix it even tho it doesnt affect anything. Please anyone have any ideas that i should try... Thanks you.

Re: Need Help. Valve cover coil screw broke!!!

Make a small metal clamp/bracket that holds the coil down. Use the bolt of the coil next to it to secure the bracket.

Another option would be a stud installer/remover if you have the clearance to get it in there.

If it was mine I would just make a bracket to hold it down. As you have noted, they sit in there fairly tight and it likely wouldn't cause a problem.

dude, those nuts only need to be slightly more then finger tight, how you could possibly break one is beyond me,

i have never really looked that close as to how those studs are attached but i believe if you really want to replace it you will need to remove the valve cover completely, which isnt really that difficult to do,

and when you are re-installing the valve cover make sure you don't snap off one of those bolts!

Re: Need Help. Valve cover coil screw broke!!!

Thanks for the suggestions mikey1 and mcnoople. And yeah its pretty sad how i broke it off aha. I know they dont need to be very tight, ive changed my spark plugs and finished the job without anything broken, this time i got too excited with the compression results and F***ed up at the end aha! the good thing is that it only happen to the one cylinder and i can drive without it affecting it. I might switch the valve cover because i wanted to engine spray paint it red. I dunno how to bracket will work out but its worth a shot. Thank You again for the advice guys.
