Re: P1361 Code, Engine Runs with half the power
I know it may be hard to believe and even I don't understand the huge price difference, but the $15 sensor cam position sensor I received was a genuine honda part. Part # 37840-RJH-006.

Just because it has the same part number as Honda doesn't make it genuine or OEM.
This is a genuine Honda part.
This is NOT a genuine Honda part.

Re: P1361 Code, Engine Runs with half the power
Hello, I am facing similar problem in my Honda Civic 2005 D15B single vtec getting code P1361 when car gets hot this problem usually occurs on ac. I get CEL during driving and engine shuts of immediately and won't start after 10-15mins. I have checked the wiring its perfect wondering should place shim in between cylinder head and sensor or go for a brand new oem sensor.
Thank You!
Thank You!

Re: P1361 Code, Engine Runs and stalls when hot. Especially during hot weather
[QUOTE=Junaid Abdullah;4786531]Hello, I had an 2002 civic. Recently p1361/p1362 codes came on.
car stalls after driving a few miles when engine gets hot and under hot weather but takes longer to stall when it’s cold outside. After about 15-20 minutes, everything runs fine until it stalls again. Please would you suggest just changing the Camshaft positioning sensor, it’s an old car with 177k miles on it.
Please help

[QUOTE=Pharaoh01;4789997] Start with that. With the info on this thread, I hope I don’t need to tell you to use a genuine Honda sensor. It will cost more than $15.

[QUOTE=Chezboat24;4790002] thanks, I would make sure my mechanic gets a very good sensor.
it just baffles me how the sensor has to do with heat tho.
when engine gets hot, it just stalls.
strange but I’ll fix the sensor today and hopefully everything works fine.

Sounds to me like it's gaining coolant into the overflow reservoir slowly. This is almost certainly a bad head gasket. Do you only drive it short distances?

and the engine gets hot but temperature guage doesn’t go to overheat.
that’s when I checked and saw the P1361 code.

The overflowing coolant is still an almost sure sign of a bad head gasket. It won't have magically fixed itself.
Have you owned the car for long?

Re: P1361 Code, Engine Runs with half the power
I drive a 2002 Honda Civic EX 5 speed manual tranny & I had the same problem, driving down the freeway, cruisin' at 70 MPH with the A/C on, and the car just lost power, gauges started dropping, and eventually the motor turned off. Pulled on side of road for 5 mins, started back up and made to location i was going to. On way home happened 2 more times, turned A/C off and it was fine. Check engine light came on and when i checked the codes it was pulling P1361. Check engine light was on from the first time it happened until now. I went and bought a new valve cover gasket, and a Camshaft position censor, replaced both and now my car runs like new. Other known problem fixes of this include cleaning the sensor, wiring harness that connects to the sensor, TDC sensor, distributor, & a few other minor things. You can do this by yourself if you have even a little bit of knowledge of how to take the valve cover/timing belt housing off. The sensor is located inside of the timing belt housing under the crank. Make sure when you take off the housing, put a rag or something under the sensor so when you take out the bolt holding the sensor in, it doesn't fall into the crank box. If that happens, you're in for a world full of pain lol. Most of my bolts took a 10MM socket. If anyone needs some help with this, let me know. Willing to help.
Ok so on my 2002 Honda civic LX 1.7l my car started doing the same thing but only after running awhile when it was hot. Made it to advanced auto parts he ran my codes well guess what p1361 so I bought a new tdc sensor and actually replaced it there in the parking lot of the parts store. Car drove fine for about 20 mins then boom same thing happened, I took it to a local shop and the mechanic there said it's a no brainer your cats stopped up so I replaced my cat/manifold once again car ran fine for bout 20 to 30 mins then boom happened again......I am lost and do not know what to do it keep hitting the same code but I've already replaced tdc sensor so what's next???

Re: P1361 Code, Engine Runs with half the power
Yes I've traced the harness checked all wires and the connector everything appears fine. It'll run great for about 20 to 30 mins then the code hits I'm running out of money so far I've replaced the tdc sensor as well as cat/manifold bc it cracked during one of the episodes bc I couldn't pull over immediately at the time and I ended up replacing the slave cylinder also bc I messed it changing the manifold......I'm going broke and my car is still sick

non OEM sensors are known to cause issues in the 7th gen civics, get a OEM one

Re: P1361 Code, Engine Runs with half the power
Bringing this one back to the top with my own question about this code and set of symptoms. I've got an '02 5 speed and it developed this "no power with a P1361 code" situation. Without doing much diagnosis, it seems that the consensus approach to this is to check/replace the sensor. If installing a known good sensor fixes the problem, then go on with life. If not, then dig deeper into the possibility of a cam issue. I guess my question is, is there any way while you have the valve and upper timing covers off to test the cam (such as simply wiggling the upper pully to check for play)? Just roaming around, I'm not seeing very many cases where people talk about replacing the cam -- probably because most just call the car too far gone and send it to the scrap heap at that point. Any thoughts on how commonly the cam is the real problem here and making that determination?
