P1361 Code - Help!

This may have been covered before but...
Let me give a little background.
I replaced the timing belt, drive belts, water pump, and plugs over the weekend.
Ran fine until I started home the next afternoon. With the A/C on and the cruise doing about 73mph the engine warning light came on and I lost power. (The engine was running but no pull and occ. misfire) Turned it off, cranked it back up and drove home no problem. Yesterday, it did the same thing but I could get it to repeat if I had the A/C and cruise on. I stopped by an Advance and the scanner gave a P1361 code. I looked this up - seems to be an intermittent TDC or Cam Position Sensor Problem. Now its missing and the plugs are fouled. So, before I start throwing parts at it or mess it up worse I wanted to see if someone else had any similar problems.
Thanks!

Guess it would help if I tell you what kind of car.
2002 Civic EX 4dr. with about 120K miles.
Routinely maintained mostly by me.

P1361 code - TDC Sensor

I admit ignorance to say i don't know what DMM means.
I tried cleaning both the cam and crankshaft position sensor connections to little avail. I've about decided to go ahead and replace the cam position sensor just haven't got around to it.
Thanks for your help!

also i didnt atempt to replace it yet, because of the whole not throwing money at an unknown situation.

The cam position sensor is about $50 from a dealer who is about the only place that can actually get them. I replaced mine but it didn't solve the problem. You'll have to follow much of the same procedure for changing a timing belt to replace it at least to the point you can get the top plastic cover off. My problem turned out that an alt. bolt hadn't got tightened good arced and messed up the ecm. Big $$$.

Same problem on my 2002 civic lx, one thing i noticed is that when it overheats it dosnt always show it on the heat gauge. But in the past i have seen the gauge go all the way up to read before the engine shuts itself off or loses power, the code i got after overheating was a tdc sensor or camshaft code. My best (uneducated) guess would be improper engine ignition caused be engine over heating. Hope this helps. Ps make sure both ur rad fans are working lol

Your best bet might be to stop guessing.

Driving any engine to the overheated point it shuts down is never good.

Re: P1361 Code - Help!

These engines don't shut down when they overheat, they melt down. So if you pull a gravel load up 7% grade at 110 degrees fahrenheit, with a partially clogged radiator and misc supplies in the cabin, the gravel rides in your harbor freight custom body trailer. With this very configuration, you will be alright, But no more than 1/4 yd of dry pea gravel, or DG/rock dust, Please. What you have to do is keep an eye right on that temp gauge. Your running a supercritical, positive feedback loop which tends to be quasi stable, if any little thing goes wrong. that gauge will go from normal to red in 3 to 4 seconds, that is how close to the limit you have come. So, shut down, immediately, or you will notice lots a smoke in the rear view mirror. even parts will come out the back. This will require a JDM engine import, swap out, best two get two on a single pallet, spare. These little hondas have set limits, There is not so much room for playing around. The thrill of summit victory will never fade.
