Headlights blinker and what is that

2003 Civic EX just failed for burnt out “marker” lights. The headlight work and the blinkers (the ones on the far outside) work. The silly little round one is burnt. But how is this a marker? It’s in the middle of the bezel. What is this small lamp? And what kind of bulb goes in there?

or do I have it all set up wrong?

Assuming they're talking about this light,

It's the parking/running light. size 168 bulb. Those are the lights that turn on with the first "stop" on the headlight stalk when you go to turn your headlights on.

Got it thanks. I couldn’t find this info anywhere else.

To reach to replace those you probably want to pull the front inter fender panels out, or drop the bumper. unless you have thinner and much more nimble hands than myself. I would put LEDs in so you don't have to change again for many years (what I did at least).

Sounds good. I have to change a blinker too, but LED blink too fast I understand. Is that true?

install resistors or a relay that supports LED (painful underdash, tho)

Re: Headlights blinker and what is that
Yes, blinkers on pre-LED cars normally cycle off of power consumption, since the LED uses less than a traditional bulb that leaves an excess which then makes it cycles the system too fast (similarly if one bulb burns out it often cycles fast. But there are kits to handle/offset this issue. I believe most newer cars have a digital timer that control the blinkers, but sadly also whole light assembly is a single sealed overpriced part.

I have converted mostly my non-signal lights to LEDs for the longer life and brighter light, but haven't done the blinkers as yet.

Re: Headlights blinker and what is that
Yeah, my 2018's blinkers are controlled by... I think the body control module or something, so I had to go the load resistor route to convert to LEDs, myself.

In my 2002, I swapped out the OEM flasher relay for the Tridon EP34 flasher relay, and while you get a slightly faster flash rate (I think it's 80/min vs OEM 60/min), it gets rid of the hyper flash when installing LEDs. Downside, you lose the bulb-out hyper flash, but you'll likely not have to replace the bulbs if you get some LEDs with quality. It's kind of a pain to swap out the flasher relay, but if you pull the one mounting bolt for the in-cabin fuse box, you can pull the entire assembly down for ease of access to said relay.

Alternatively, there are some LED turn signal bulbs out there with load resistors built into them. If I come across any, I'll post them up in this thread.

Same here, I'll blame sellers on amazon lying though
