Cruise control not working [solved]
Cruise control not working [solved]
My cruise control doesn't work in my 2005 Honda Civic LX. I'm pretty sure according to what I've seen on YouTube that the problem is in the brake pedal switch. The cruise control light doesn't come on when I press SET at speeds above 25mph.
My question is that after removing the cowling to view the brake pedal and the switches connected to it, I only saw one switch, ..could this be a dual function switch?. Like for both the brake lights on and cruise control shut off switch.

re: Cruise control not working [solved]
there is only one brake pedal switch...
If going by your logic, the pedal would need one switch for each brake light, left, right and 3rd lights. One switch activates all 3 lights, why it would not feed the cruise module? Just pull a wire to it
are you asking about the clutch pedal switch for manual cars?

re: Cruise control not working [solved]
can you post the links to youtube videos?
The switch is there to tell that the pedal is depressed. That signal being cut off can be used to turn lights on and the cruise will use that same signal.
Calling it dual function is wrong. Its function is to tell if pedal is depressed or not.
Lights use that to turn on, cruise uses it to turn off.
Electrical just need a wire to send the signal or cut the signal.
No need to put several switches to do same thing, it's a waste of money, space and weight
There is only one switch. period

Is this possible concerning bad fuse?
If my fuse is blown in a 2005 Honda Civic LX sedan for the cruise control should the light on the CRUISE button near the power mirror switches be lit or does it go out when the fuse goes bad? I ask because I've gone all over the place trying to find out why my cruise control won't set. The light lights up when pressing it in but I cannot set the cruise control. I fooled with the brake switch and used de-corroding solvent, went under the hood and sprayed the Cruise Control connection there but nothing happens. To my understanding but not by experience because I just bought the car, that an indicator(besides the one near the power mirror switches) is suppose to light up indicating that the cruise control is engaged in the instrument cluster in the dashboard. There is no indicator so I have to assume that a bad brake cruise control disengaging switch is the problem..any ideas?

after my airbag recall replacement, the cruise is not working. If the airbag was replaced in your car, the steering wheel connectors might not be good

Re: Is this possible concerning bad fuse?
The bulb might just be burned out. You need to check if the module has power and ground. If you can put the front on jackstands you can start it, put in drive and get someone to try and activate the cruise while you check and see if the signal is going out. Or take it to the shop if this is beyond your abilities.
Steering wheel cruise control button question?
Getting tired of trying to figure this out but my next move(if I knew how it operated mechanically inside)is going to be to inspect or clean the steering wheel cruise control switch. My question is that does it work mechanically on the inside of the switch the same as a T.V. remote controller. I don't mean it sends a remote signal. I mean is there a rubber diaphragm on the inside so maybe the electrical conductive paint or coating wore out-just like a T.V. remote controller? This vehicle is a 2005 civic LX sedan automatic transmission.

Re: Steering wheel cruise control button question?
clock spring if you did a airbag recall
did you clear up the brake pedal switch thing?
merged threads, it is going all over the place

Re: Steering wheel cruise control button question?
I just watched a video on how to remove the steering wheel in this particular model and when they removed the airbag assembly, it was independent of the clock spring..in other words you don't have to mess with the clock spring in order to swap airbags

re: Cruise control not working [solved]
oh, OK, never done that myself. no clock spring involved.
Nevertheless, my cruise stopped working after the airbag replacement - need to remove the cruise buttons to do that. If they messed up connecting stuff after, that is a potential cause there.
have not bothered to fix mine, since COVID I did 3k miles on the civic

re: Cruise control not working [solved]
Clockspring can get damaged, or things not plugged in properly when replacing the airbag. The buttons are actual buttons

The cruise control icon lights up when the cruise control speed is set. This means that if the light doesn't come on after pressing "SET" that the problem is in that button or the cruise control cutoff at the brake pedal is worn out
Cruise control allows you to maintain
a set speed above 25 mph (40 km/h)
without keeping your foot on the
accelerator pedal. It should be used
for cruising on straight, open
highways. It is not recommended for
city driving, winding roads, slippery
roads, heavy rain, or bad weather.
Accelerate to the desired cruising
speed above 25 mph (40 km/h).
Push in the Cruise Control Master
Button. The indicator in the button
comes on.
Press and release the SET/decel
button on the steering wheel. The
indicator on the instrument panel
comes on to show the system is
now activated.

re: Cruise control not working [solved]
This is going to sound suspicious -like I'm trying to be super Uncle or something but I went to the car wash..has roller brushes and jets.. finished drying car off with a terry cloth towel..must have pressed some of the buttons in the door jams.. got out on the expressway home and out of habit and just not believing that my cruise control hasn't worked from day 1 after buying the car.. I pressed the cruise control buttons AND IT WORKED! I know it's Sunday and miracles and everything..well anyway..lol..after running tests and thinking I got beat in the deal and asking100 questions in forums..under all the dirt after a carwash was my cruise control..one for the books. Thanks to everyone that I bothered.
