I知 lost - electrical gremlins

I have an 02 Civic EX sedan, Manual transmission and about to hit 200k. I traded into it a few weeks ago from an older lady who thankfully kept up with maintenance. Due to quarantine I haven稚 driven it much lately as I got slammed with a lay-off. But, beforehand everything was going flawlessly. Went out the other day to drive to the store, started it up and I believe my serp belt started screaming and my ABS light kicked on.

Once it reaches idle the screaming calms down and the car tries to stall, revs back up and rinse and repeat. Alternator is new, both battery and alt are testing good. But here痴 where I get lost.

when car idles below 1k, abs light will go off until rpms go above 1k. Also, if I turn my fan/ac on, abs light kicks on and my radio shuts off. When I rev past 1k, it値l kill my radio as well. Ac doesn稚 blow cold either, just blows.

If my battery and alt wasn稚 performing as they should, that would have been where I started but my voltage remains flawless. I have an idea that maybe my ac pulley/clutch Is locked up but I知 not too sure, so before I started ripping things off I壇 see if anyone has experienced this same ordeal or have some light to shed.

thanks in advance

Is your ac compressor spinning freely? Almost sounded like it might be locked up?

Re: I知 lost - electrical gremlins

It’s pretty common for people to come to this forum after replacing a alternator.

Most cars just have 2 alternator mounting points, but ours have a floating adjustment bracket so it’s three bolts and a wingnut that all need to be tightened. If that was not bad enough, the design of the electrical system will fry out the ECU if the alternator gets loose enough and loses electrical grounding.

I think you have a compound issue, a siezed AC compressor put a hella strain on your belt and pulled the alternator loose.

welcome to the joys of a 7th gen and our forum.

Thank you!

I bought all the stuff to replace that, thankfully. Hopefully it値l save me from buying another alternator.
