2004 Civic Ignition switch failure
2004 Civic Ignition switch failure
Today I parked my Civic with the wheels in full lock to the right. I removed the key and went into the bank to do business. When I tried to restart the car I first had difficulty getting the car into the ignition and when I did the key would not turn.
I phone my automobile association and just when they arrived I managed to get the car to start. Later in the afternoon my wife tried to start the car, this time with the wheels straight ahead, but she had difficulty also. I made an appointment to take the car into my Honda dealer but once again had difficulty starting the car.
When I took the car to the dealer and turned the motor off the problem recurred. The service manager said I would have to pay a $60.00 diagnostic charge and he would phone me at home.
The upshot is that he has quoted an amount of $1200.00 Canadian -$US1044 - to remove the ignition, replace it with a new part, and to re-key two keys.
Has anyone a similar experience and faced a similar bill?

Re: 2004 Civic Ignition switch failure
Hi there,
I am having the same issue with my 2005 Honda Civic - the key has been difficult to turn in my ignition, when it does turn the engine won't crank (I managed to get the engine started after about 3 tries). I am thinking the ignition switch has worn out.
Just wondering if you managed to resolve your problem?
Can you let me know how?
Thank you in advance!

check eBay. You can find cylinder assemblies with keys for 100-200 and to get a key programmed even cut to Is no more than 100$. Check youtube, it’s a very doable job. Save alot of money. Have AAA tow it from the stealership
