How do you replace an ignition switch in a 2004 Civic?
I have a new ignition switch I want to install in my 2004 Civic. Is there a procedure or tool needed for the new switch and key to function and allow the car to start?

doesnt look to hard to do.... I wonder if it's connected to the security system at all (as far as whether your going to have to get it reprogramed or not.

My question is, what it will take to get the car to start once I change the ignition switch out?
I know it won't start because I connected the new switch to the wiring harness without mounting it and it would not start. I would just turn over.
The 2 bolts that clamp it to the steering column have heads that twist off on purpose, so you cannot unclamp it easily. I imagine they will have to be drilled out and use an extracter.

The immobilizer system will not recognize the new key and will not allow the car to start.
You most likely will have to pay a dealer to enable the system to work with the new key.
You might call your local locksmith and and him if they know of any way to do it.

I unbolted the ignition from the steering column by drilling out the 2 bolts and using an easy-out. I left it connected to the electrical and hanging underneath. I then mounted the new ignition on the steering column and took it to the dealer. At the dealer I disconnected the old switch and plugged in the new switch. The dealer programed the key I had plus they made and programed 2 more keys. They treated me right. The charge was a flat $45 to program as many keys I wanted plus $35 for each new key with cutting. My local locksmith wanted $77 per key with cutting plus $50 per key to program.
