Question whats the best battery?

I put an Optima yellow top in, and it wouldn't hold the charge, so im not sure if i'll be getting a refund or replacement, in the case that im battery shopping, what is the best battery to go with? I've been told Optima doesnt have a red top in size 51, so would it be better to go with a Yellow top 51, or a different brand? whats best?

i've noticed that the size 51 replacement at autozone (Duralast Gold) has more CA, and CCA than stock. So it seems to me anything would be an improvement.

what should I go with?

PW-ing abounds here...

basically yellowtop= play with car off. not a great starter (worse than stock by a slight bit in some cases)

red top= starter. but like most batteries if it is drained all the way the life expectancy goes down. comes with 3 year warranty as opposed to 1 year.

however, optimas are higher priced than in house brands (duralast, diehard, you name it) and really don't offer much more besides the spill resistance and vibration damping benefits. the diehard gold is like $40 or $50 less than a red top regular price yet has about the same CCA rating.

i will be trying to fit a larger battery in there soon, the stock size is so small it's retarded. and with my new digicam hopefully that will help some people out. might do it tomorrow if the weather holds out.

if you want a bigger battery, couldn't you just move it to the trunk? i've heard of that being done before, never seen a primary battery in the trunk, but heard of it.

could but i like trunk room. i'm gonna ditch the stupid holder for the battery and use tiedowns somehow. might have to move some things around too.

powering my car is more important than my system. longer wires to trunk = more power lost. startups pull a lot of CCA's and especially in colder climates, i don't want to risk it.

in AZ or FL, they may never notice.

well, if the battery didnt hold a charge, and assuming that the battery was fine (as in the replacement battery does the same thing on you) then you might have a different problem entirely.

honestly, for a basic battery that just outperforms the stock, any battery would work very well. I personally ran a die hard from sears. Based on the numbers it has twice the charge of a yellowtop or redtop, and has a larger number of cranking amps. couple that with a pricetag of half a retail yellowtop, and I was sold.

but for a basic battery for an average stereo, diehard, optima, stinger, rockford, they are all great batteries.

you might have gotten a dud, or have other electrical problems

Re: whats the best battery?

You can try the 51R battery. But make sure the battery cables are long enough for reversed terminals, or you may find the cables are stretched too much.

In case you need a battery to run stereo system, get a dual purpose group 51/51R battery for high RC/AH rating.

Note: Must choose a battery with the same or a higher CCA rating for replacing your car’s old one. (CCA for standard Civic battery is ~ 410)

I highly recommend Optima D51R for lowed price or XS Power D5100R for high CCA. You can find reviews for other options at this blog: https://batteryglobe.com/honda-civic-battery/
