New owner, First Maintenance Schedule
Hi all, just got my first Civic six months ago (2019 Sport) and have been lurking here for a while. I have a dumb question to start things off. (sorry if this is answered elsewhere)
When are you supposed to take the car in for first service?
The dealer put a 5000 mile / 6mos. sticker on it. But I've read that this car has a Maintenance Minder that tells you when to go in for service.
This is my first new car with that kind of feature. I assume the dealer would tell me to bring it in as early and often as possible.
I'm already at the 6 month point, and nearing 5000 miles. Should I go in now, or wait until an indicator pops up?
If the latter, how much time/mileage does that give me to take it in? (like would I need to go in immediately or can it wait a couple weeks after the light shows)
Thanks!

Re: New owner, First Maintenance Schedule
I mean, if you have the means, I'd DIY. First maintenance minder (A1 - oil/filter change and tire rotation) came on at 7342 miles, and that was at about 5% oil life remaining. I'd just stick to the maintenance minder instead of the old standard of 3-5k miles. I've had my car ('18 sport hatch) for 2 years and 3 months with 23.5k on the clock, and she's only had 3 oil changes. Got her in November '17. First change was July '18, second was march '19, and third was November '19, sticking to the maintenance minder, changing at 5-10% oil life remaining. The maintenance minder light should illuminate at about 10% oil life remaining.
That's purely anecdotal, however. I trust 4 people under the hood of my car, myself being one of them, two live in Cali, one lives in Cincy. That, and some of the maintenance items (e.g. air filter) I follow on my own schedule because I've learned I can't own a car without modding it, so some maintenance items get shifter or modified depending on the component
