intermittent A/C 2016 EX-L
intermittent A/C 2016 EX-L
2016 honda civic EX-L with 1.5L. A/C is sometimes cold and then becomes warm. Then sometimes cool but eventually warm again. Randomly interminably cycles from cold to hot. I have replaced the condenser but that didn't fix it. I don't think it Is the compressor or else it would never cool the air. I used to turn the air off and then on then it would be cool for a bit but that doesn't work anymore. Now whenever I floor the accelerator, it blows cool for a while. That's starting to go away too. I think it might be an electrical issue. What could it be? It's been like this for two years.

I think I am having this same problem. Compressor is also "icing up". I stopped the car for a few minutes and even ran the HEATER (on an 88-deg afternoon). When I turned it back to A/C and drove off, actual ICE came out of the dashboard vents. Does this provide an additional clue for my problem?

I wish my a/c was freezing up. Check your cabin air filter, check refrigerant levels because low or high refrigerant levels cause freezing up, make sure blower motor is pushing air or else the evaporator core will freeze, and check air vents. If that doesn't do it, then empty all your refrigerant and make sure you put in the right amount.

That's happening to my 07 Ram 2500 5.9 MegaCab. Brand new a/c system but system freezes after a while. Blower motor works good but cant get the air out to the vents so the evaporator core freezes.

Re: intermittent A/C 2016 EX-L
Similar issue here. I took it to the dealership last year with this same issue (inter). Runs well, but after a good while the air from vents stopped blowing as hard even on max speed. I would turn off the ac for a good while and turn it back on and sometimes ice would come out and the fan speed and cool would word well for a good while; then same over and over (bad for long trips). I took it to the dealership and they said I had good freon levels and no leaks and couldn't find any issues, so they evacuated my freon and recharged ($300.00). I drove it off the lot and notice it was immediately not as cold as before, but gave it a shot since it was sitting in the hot Texas sun parking lot. Called them upset and the Honda service people were saying there was no issue. So took it back, and they had it for a few days saying that they noticed the passenger side was colder than the driver side. They told me my freon levels were still good and that there were no issues with that, so they said the door blend actuator (dual air control) was malfunctioning. They told me they took it off and fixed it + reinstalled it. It worked great for over a year. This weekend I was driving long distance and the A/C started not cooling as well with the fan not blowing strong air AGAIN. I turned it off and turned it back on minutes later and it started to cool normal again without ice this time. I stopped at autozone and replace my cabin air filter and it was really dirty. On my way back home, it stopped cooling/blowing well again, so I did the usual and turned the A/C off and back on about 10 - 20 min. later on my 200 mile trip. Keep in mind it is almost 100 degree Texas heat outside. The weird thing is that after I turned it back on this last time, it cooled the whole way back to my house (around 100 miles) in 100 degree weather. Maybe the air blend actuator is inter. acting up again? OR maybe the Honda servicers lied and didn't really fix it? Maybe a temp fix (like greasing the actuator without replacing it); But you know the servicer would never admit that. I might let it run some more and see if I have the issue again, but the dirty cabin air filter seemed to help on my trip back, unless it's just a coincidence since it messed up once after changing the cabin air filter, but didn't mess up for around 100 miles after messing up once (in comparison to constantly with a dirty cabin filter). OR maybe the actuator just decides when it wants to act up and I got lucky for the 100 miles. Who knows; All I know is that there is no information for our problem and year models online. Sad.

Re: intermittent A/C 2016 EX-L
Sounds a lot like the problems with my 2016 EX-T. In fact, I had to look at your UserID to be sure that I hadn't written the description of the problem! As I replied to sdaidoji at https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...s-2018-lx.html,
"Just last week, I received notice in the mail that my Civic [now] has an extended warranty (to 10 years) for the compressor seal. Brought it in today for an oil change and visual inspection of A/C system. At first they said nothing showed in the inspection, then I authorized about $190 for a complete change of the Freon. Then they called back and said that the compressor seal needed to be changed, under warranty. Not sure if they played me to get me to pay $190 of the warranty repair cost. Will ask when I pick it up."
I will let you know how it does when I drive 100+ miles on July 5th.
I'm glad I didn't have this fixed last summer or fall because from what I've read, Honda will not reimburse repairs done before the warranty is extended.
