I have a 2017 LX Hatch with a key start and remote is on the key. Yesterday late afternoon, suddenly for the first time and after working fine all day, the remote would not lock or make the horn beep. When I noticed I tried again and all the windows went down. When I went back to the car I could hear the gas-cap-cover lock or unlock. And the red light on the remote stayed on for a bit.
I added a pic of my key/remote below (btw... is there a way to insert a smaller pic?)
I changed the battery on the old remote/key and no better.
The solution was that I broke out the spare remote (that I had not used since I bought the car new) and that works fine.
What I'd like to hear from is anyone who has experienced or heard of this specific problem
And anyone who knows what the answer is or whether the remote/key has simply become no better than a standard old-fashioned key.

Re: remote locks stopped working
horn beep
The words horn and beep need clarified a little... I read as significant descriptors of 2 totally different systems ..... and horn or beep is the loudest difference between em lol
For troubleshooting i gotta make sure you mean the actual Horn , the loud horn out front (lx -standard key)
the keyless entry/pushbutton start cars use the tiny electronic beeper in the back bumper instead of sharing the horn. very different system, different approach. There's a lot more involved in those, lol.
as I hit the lock button as I walked away I noticed that I did not hear the horn beep to confirm it locked.
all 4 windows had rolled down.
first guess of course is user error, thumb kinda missed the lock button a li'l bit and hit the other button by a a lot more.
Heres why
When you hit the unlock button a second time and hold it down it will roll the windows down. Some models open the sunroof too.
If its truly doing wrong/weird things try disconnecting the 12v battery for 15 minutes or so, and leave the drivers door open while you do. Basic reboot kinda.
spare key which I never used before it does nothing
If the red LED on the transmitter does not light up, its battery is most likely dead. Replace battery inside fob.
if it still dont light the battery may be upside down, flip it over ,
And if the 12v battery can still start the engine it should be strong enough to run the power locks.
• I always figured the lock confirmation 'beep' was a short beep from the actual horn.
• Definitely not thumb error. I've been using the remote for almost 4 years. Plus I went through the routine several times and paid close attention.
• I don't believe I knew holding the unlock button would roll the windows down. Of course you are right, (now that I have a working remote) it does when I hit unlock twice and hold it the 2nd time.
BUT, it was the LOCK button that was rolling them down on the remote that lost its mind.
You are right. The battery on the spare key was dead.....
So, last night I bought a new battery and replaced it on the old key I had been using the past 3.8 years. Did not make a difference. All the same things happened.
BUT, when I replaced the battery in the spare key that I had never used before, the spare key works fine. (still does not roll the windows down)
So, this process of elimination tells me that my old key suddenly went from working fine to being a mess. Any ideas on that? Or has it now become just an old fashioned key?
P.S. - Since you seem to know a bit about this stuff. I have noticed over the years that every so often when I would approach my car and hit the unlock button, the front lights would come on. It has been a rare occurrence, but I am certain that when it has happened I have done nothing more than hit the unlock button the same way that I always do.

Pull the battery out of that remote, maybe check for signs of water entry (some fobs actually have a moisture indicator inside). Reinstall battery, see what happens.
I've seen enough weird electronic symptoms, I might still try the 12v car battery disconnect anyway. It's free.
Use the key that works correctly.

Park lights flash front and rear. Not sure about headlights. Owners manual?
