Alarm problem..... to get or not to get....
Dealer told me I am looking at around 600 dollars if they install alarm system in my new Civic, but he also suggested I do not get alarm, he said the car can't be stolen because it wont start unless it has the specific key, and audio system is anti theft. What do you guys think? is alarm A MUST or no? I dont know what to do, I am kinda low on funds right now, after buying the car.
heh heh..can't be stolen.....heh heh BS..
and all the audio system anti-theft is that if someone does steal it they need a code to get it to work again...
alarm (pager) and fuel cut-off..
prox, shock and tilt..

These days alarm aren't really designed for protecting car to start. It's more for theft "deterent", as in scare the theives away.
I'm glad I had it, so the guys who broke in my window were scared and left, instead of piecing out my car.

go with pager alarm
and professional car thief can steal anythign they want. the key we have will slow them down by 1 second but if they want to steal any car with engine immobilizer they will and have no problem

Honda OE Alarm is well more secure than the aftermarket alarms, make sure it is Honda, they are quiet costly too, I think the unit it self is 500$+, and you wont have to worry about a bad wiring job. If you don't like Honda OE Alarm (theres a difference, a lot of dealer use this opportunity to get the Audiovox which uses the same remote transmitter t hus it looks stock). An alternative would be Compustar or Clifford.

Tilt was mentioned, I assume this means the alarm will go off if someone is lifting up the car to jack your rims, I'm just wondering if the Honda OE will go off in that situation...
As for the price for the OE alarm, there are several US Honda parts sites selling it for $120USD

i know many ppl here with pager alarm (CompuStar and the other brand i forgot the name but FlippedOut is using that brand) and i heard more positive things than negative things
FO actually has the stock OEM Honda alarm but he took it off and went with pager alarm so figured that one out

Since you are only leasing the car with your stock HU. You shouldn't need to worry about ppl stealing it. Save your money, enjoy the car and don't leave any thing flashy in your car. That's it!

Compustar is a very nice alarm, great range, has a nice interfacing 2 way pager, haven't tried it yet but going that route before this winter. You can find a deal for $550 installed.

It is also more reliable because connections are already premade at the factory so no wiring jobs are required.

hahaha.....
when it comes down to it, alarms won't do ****...
if they REALLY want the car...they'll take it!
alarm goes off? they disconnect the battery, cut the backup sirens...
fuel-kill, ignition kill?....they'll tow or flat bed the car
when the pager alarm goes off and you go out to check the car, they hold a gun up to your head.....and just made their job easier by giving them the key!
just be careful where you leave the car!

Agreed, nothing can do to prevent an auto theft. But than there's always way to detere the amateur thiefs. The point of an alarm is to detere theft. It sure would scare always those when you have a few deafening sirens inside the vehicle, 2 to the underside of the hood (its facing towards the guy, as oppose to in the engine bay which faces towards the ground).

WEll all said and done... True, if they want it they'll find a way to take it with or without an alarm... Just keep important stuff out of site in your car.
What I like about my CompuStar is that it's a remote start too.. for those cold winters day/night.. got ot love aftermarket.
