Return of Check Engine Light... but now I know why
After 2 hours of sitting in the waiting room while my car was hooked up onto a computer, according to Sterling Honda, my catalytic converter is ****ed.
I learned two things:
1. Catalytic converters have warrenty coverage of 130,000km or 8 years.
2. They cannot charge you for investigating the "check engine" light, if the problem happened to be covered under warrenty.
Anyway, it's all good for me. They are going to call me when the part arrives, and it'll be replaced under warrenty.
But I wonder what made it go pre-maturely? I think it was the short-ram intake I had a while back. My mechanic warned me that it might kill the catalytic converter. Since then, I took it off, but I still drove around with it for about 40,000km.

How would the aftermarket intake do that? I'm running with stock intake without the resonator and you have me worried now. Are you running an aftermarket exhaust as well?

the same thing happened to me as well this year.
lucky it was covered under warranty.
i used to have a SRI but changed to a CAI.
i thought it might have been some additives i tried (STP, NOS Octane Booster, etc)
why would the SRI kill the cat?

I have no idea what SRI does... I mean, I know it lets in more air. I heard from many people in the past that this will definitely f**k up the O2 (oxygen) sensor on the newer cars, but I wasn't aware it would deterriate the cat coverter too.
I with I was a mechanic....

need more info that just SRI will kill ur oxygen sensor
the intake just lets more air in, or something close that!

its not like AIR will eat the inside of ur CAT ,etc.
u just cant blame it on something like that. lets say u dont have a intake or header
but u just have a exhuast they will prolly blame it on the exhuast. get my point.... and looking for a scapegoat aint cool

im just having a really hard time believing that a SRI will rot the CAT. if u can get the mechanic to give u some real reason's as to why it does it. then i will
to ya!
otherwise.. i wont believe it.

I'm not making it up.. I'm just telling you what he told me. I have no idea why he said this... but so far, his predictions have become true.
I'll ask another mech... or just wait till one of you guys with SRI hit over 90,000kms too
