How to postpone a court date?

What would be a valid excuse to postpone a court date? (for speeding ticket) I really need to postpone it because my insurance renews in 2 months and the court date is in a month. I just can't think of a valid excuse that wouldn't require documentation, could use some help here lol

That excuse won't fly, they're pretty tight about it and of course when the court date does come up your postponement will probably reflect negatively on you. But if you can come up with a valid excuse the best way is to call the courthouse to find out the process. Hell, if you don't give a name you can just ask a "general question" for a "friend", right?

yeah but coming up with a valid excuse is the problem lol. I already know the procedure, they'll set up a date and I'll have to go in and explain why I can't make it, I wanted to tell them I'll be out of country but then they will want to see an airline ticket or something.
I just don't want to deal with a ticket at the moment, I just bought a house and mortgage payments are killing, don't want my insurance to skyrocket my rate because of a stupid speed trap.

possible excuses
-you just started a new job and they wont let you leave early for the first month
-you have a midterm exam (depending on your age, dunno if that would work)
-you happen to have a doctors appointment on that day with a specialist and have waited months for this appointment. (works well if you have a friend/family member who is a doctor)
-you have to drive down to __________ (montreal, ottawa, etc) for a business seminar/meeting/presentation which youre are obliged to attend for work. have a friend who lives in that city mail you some gas receipts from down there with the correct dates (works like a charm)

these will not necessarily work, these are just some examples i/my friends have used which have worked. of course, documentation is everything

PS- no good excuse wont require documentation. i feel the best thing to do is use option 4, its the easiest to get documentation for. tell them you will provide receipts from your trip and get gas receipts, food receipts, etc. if they ask for a hotel bill, tell them you were staying with a friend/coworker who has someone down there...
thats all i got right now... geez im such a con

Go to your personal travel agent(friendly one), buy a ticket from him but tell them you might go refund within these 2 days. Give them a little bit "transition" fee which is "required".

Then bring your ticket to the court and show it to them.

I used to use that method but not likely same as your situation.

thanks dude! I like option 4 too, but won't they ask for something to show that I'll be going before I go or before the court date? I mean, when I go in to explain why I can't make it they'll require some sort of proof that I'll be going to the business trip, or they won't? I don't want to stand there looking like a retard if they start asking questions lol, or they won't ask questions?

well tell them theres no way you can prove it cuz youre driving there but will come back with some kind of documentation (gas receipts, food bills) stating that you were in another city.
then get your friend in another city to fill gas/buy food that day and get a receipt and mail it over asap!
