Hydrolocked
Well, I dunno how I did it, considering I didn't see a single huge puddle or whatnot, though it IS raining pretty hard here in Brampton. So yeah, just before I got to Queen St to go to work today my engine stalled hard and wouldn't start back up. Pushed back to my house and pulled the plugs, ran the starter and all this freakin water and oil shot up in my face. I'm just draining the oil from the car now, we'll see if she starts up but if not then perhaps this is a sign from whoever it is up there.....
....that TeLLy was meant to drive DOHC.
Updates to come, wish me luck guys, I can't afford a K20 just yet what with the turbo project but if I can limp along for just a few weeks.....

Yeah I have an Injen. I still stand by my "you don't need a bypass valve", what happened was me just being stupid and not paying attention to the road, I mean I must have driven through something ridiculously deep for the engine to crap out like this.
Anyone out there with a D17A2 (VTEC), please weigh in with an asking price, if I can't get this sucker working by tomorrow I'm going to do an emergency engine swap this weekend.

Update:
After some effort I got er to start and idle, the first few minutes she would dip and stall if I even touched the gas, but when I'd pulled the plugs earlier the starter spun free and no ticks so I'm thinking things should be OK or I can at least limp along till I can tear the head off and play....maybe time for some new rods and pistons for the turbo anyway. I was able to get my baby up the driveway and now I need to change the oil to see if that helps my situation. More as the story develops.
Dang, I was almost hoping to have to buy a new engine.

Lucky stuff. Last year when we had that bad downpoor I sucked up some water and I put my foot to the floor and burned it all off...luckily it wasnt enough water to kill the motor. Same I had the CAI with no by-pass it really is worth it to have.

IMO a bypass wouldn't have helped me considering (in retrospect) the size of the puddles I had to push the car through afterward. This really was just a case of my stupidity, like the time I got pulled over by a speedtrap because I was searching for car wash change and wasn't looking at the road or the speedo. That said, I'm gonna save myself some heartache and pull the CAI extension. No need to go through a day of missed work again, my boss probably wasn't too pleased.

Amen brother.
Update: just changed the oil AGAIN, she's idling pretty smooth and the white smoke has stopped coming out the back. Gonna take my baby out for a boot now and see how she runs.

Update:
Took her out for a 50-minute boot with the wifey. I informally "tested" hard acceleration, starting and shutting down, hitting VTEC, downshifting and engine braking. She's running at least as good as last night. I only noticed two differences:
1) No more hum from the CAI, it's more hissing than anything.
2) Because the CAI extension is now off, the pipe connected to the TB isn't connected by any more than the screw clamp to the TB so it's rattling against something under the hood. I haven't taken time to properly adjust it, it's dark and I'm just relieved that the car is running.
Overall I'm just on edge because I'm waiting for that one catastrophic failure to ruin yet another day. Well, I'm financially drained (just bought the eManage) and literally don't have a minute to myself during the week, so I'm just gonna be careful till I have the funds and time to get this checked out and fixed properly. Thanks for your support everyone, it was very heartwarming to get those phone calls and MSN messages with advice and offers of help.
