I've seen a DIY on this somewhere before. I remember the person used a sheet metal hole cutter (from home depot or radio shack) to punch the hole for the sides markers.
Are they like VW Passet side markers where they sink in or the side markers that go on top of the body?
Good luck!!

You need sidemarkers that cover the hole, otherwise it won't look good. I drilled a small hole big enough to fit the sheet metal nibbler in. You can pick up the nibbler from radioshack. They carry it for sure. It's a tool like pliars that cuts small squares of sheetmetal.

My friend used a dremel at his shop. Well actually first he used a huge *** drill to carefully drill a couple of holes in each side in order to have something to cut from. Then he hooked up his dremel and started cutting. But then his dremel broke. He went out to get a new dremel (left me in his shop alone with nothing but a bunch of import mags). Finished the job, like 4 hours later. The new dremel cut through my fender like butter. So I bought it off him. Now I have a dremel.
Our fenders are soft, so be careful drillin the first hole, it's real easy to punch a dent into the metal. Oh and the sound of a dremel cutter bit hitting sheet metal is real heartbreaking when you know it's YOUR car....I swear I wanted to cry when I heard it. So I went outside and quietly let the tears roll down my face...

also, try to cover the edges of the hole with tape or some touch up paint to stop rust from forming

Oh yeah, that's very important. Touchup paint or some anti rust spray, or you'll have major problems. Go easy on the sheet metal, or you'll have dents all around where you cut.

Had mine done at Proparts (formerly known as Speedbump) in Mississauga. He was even nice enough to apply touchup paint around the edges for me.

i think it'd be a good idea to have the shop drill the holes so they can spray the exposed metal to help prevent rusting, that or find out what spray they are using and get it yourself

Couldn't you use metal hole saws, (the one with the drill bit that goes into a bigger round saw) they sell them at Crappy Tire. I use them all the time to cut into metal, but never used it on cars. But I'd just take it to the shop just wondering if anybody ever used those before.

You will ruin your side panel with that. Even with the tiny sheet metal nibblers, I was starting to get dents along the edges. Just follow the DIY and you'll be fine. Here's one I did a while back.\
