OMG I felt VTEC in my car.
so yeah, I was driving down the road today and it was freaking hot. (winter in california :rolleyes
and I had the AC blasting.
and I was in a hurry so I was in 2nd gear and I floored it... and when I reach the upper rpm (needle was somewhere in the middle) so around 4800-5200 I felt a jolt and the sensation that the car is TRYING to go faster...
and I was like OMG I just felt SOHC VTEC for the first time.
or either that something is wrong with my engine and I gotta go check it out.
its weird, if that really was vtec switching the the cam into a more "aggressive" lobe, I wouldn't expect it while I have the AC running.
I really feel the power difference whenever I have AC on. its nuts. makes me sad sometimes.
anyway, if this is stupid. flame on.

No flaming just an explanation.
When the engine reaches a certain rpm the A/C compressor clutch disengages. It's so as not to spin the compressor too fast but gives the added benefit of increased power. Some cars are fitted with a larger diameter A/C pully for just this reason. Anyway, it does feel like super Vtec kicking in but it's just a straining engine being released from the A/C load.

I hit VTEC one day, I couldn't handle the power so I spun out of control and landed on the sidewalk, these girls that were walking down the street said I was like 10 feet in the air, so immediately I was like, "WHOA".
I'm with mohawkboom on this one. I also have a non-vtec engine, and I never said anything about it, but I also noticed how there is suddenly a jolt of power at about 4000rpm range. I'm not sure what it is, but I aint complaining. I'll talke anything this car has to give at this point.

yeah I saw the light at the end of the tunnel
I've been in a GSR, Prelude, so yeah I know how variable valve timing feels when its tuned for power....

IMO everyone with SOHC VTEC especially with the 7th gen civics, UR VTEC AINT $HIT...all I hear from them is you don't have VTEC, man ur missing out or man I beat this car cuz my VTEC kicked in...whatever. If you really wanna feel VTEC, go drive in a car that has DOHC, those pull, epsically the JDM H22 Type S..all i can say is GOOD LORD!!! my word of suggestion, stop overexaggerating how bada$$ your SOHC VTEC is..just my opinion
Hey, I was reading an older thread in another forum not to long agon that was on this subject. The had mention that our vics don't really have vtech.. we have i-vtech
which happens to be better that vtech because it is constantly adjusting and not just at one point.. err.. let say being 4500rpms.. hence, that's why we don't feel the jolt of the vtech kicking in, but rather the changes are ocurring throughout and the i-vtech is taking full advantage of the powerband.
However, I"m no mechanically that incline and I"m just recieting what I could remember... if I"m wrong.. someone please correct me...
Just wanted to share this.. for thoughts.. no flames pls..

most of us know what type of VTEC we have, and we know its limits, we were making fun of it, if you didnt notice.
I doubt we have i-VTEC, its been thrown around a bit, but its just not practical. But you are right on what i-VTEC does, it does smooth things out more, instead of the ususal burst of power you may experience, you get a gradual increase over the entire powerband, and in my opinion, thats better.
