2. Really? Last time I had it corner weighted my car weighed in @ 2620 lbs (on the DOT) WITH a full tank of gas, plus all my other mods (ie nitrous, heavier rims, and what not). The GT has a curb weight of under 2400 lbs? Last time i checked it weighs 2565 (official dry curb weight given by Toyota of America Ltd. for a standard 03 Celica MTX).

Yes, the Celica DOES weigh 2400 & change.. don't post bulls-hit numbers and label it "Toyota of North America".. nobody believes you. In fact, www.toyota.com says curb weight of 2,425lb...

If what you say is true, and in fact Toyota is lying about it, then in return, MR-2 must be at 2400+ pounds. However, the test scores of 15.2s 1/4mile still stands pat. And either way, Celica is only 200lb heavier than the MR-2. Which actually makes it less of a difference, when you look at the power to weight ratio.

Your stupidity beyond reason..!!!

GT 2425lb / 140hp = 17.3 lb/ hp

140hp, 160hp.. all *RATED* horsepower. Ever put it on dyno's AT WHEEL horsepower? And I don't just mean peak horses.. I mean the ENTIRE powerband. Heck, S2000 has power to weight ratio of a C5 Corevette.. but gets its *** spanked by it.

To prove a point, I looked at dyno results for an SiR and a Celica GT. Taking samples at every 1,000RPM intervals, and starting at 2,000RPM,

Not all dynos perform the same, but are very close.

Civic SiR

Peak = 139HP
2K RPM = 28HP
3K RPM = 48HP
4K RPM = 62HP
5K RPM = 82HP
6K RPM = 110HP
7K RPM = 130HP
8K RPM = 136HP
Final Average Across Powerband = 85.1HP

Celica GT
Peak = 122HP
2K RPM = 39HP
3K RPM = 58HP
4K RPM = 84HP
5K RPM = 102HP
6K RPM = 121HP
7K RPM = 102HP
8K RPM = Doesn't rev that high
Final Average Across Powerband = 84.3HP

Finally, have you ever look at gearing ratio of the cars?? Celica is significantly shorter.. as in, Celica puts max power to the wheels long before the Civic will.

Add that, with 200lb LESS MASS....

You do the math.

Umm, dosen't anyone find this disturbing? I mean it might be possible to beat a Civic SiR, but a Prelude SH w/ intake and exhaust? No way, a Type SH can run mid to high 14's with intake and exhaust...and you beat one...heII no. Prelude SH's only come in stick I believe, and if you could beat a SH you could probaly take an Integra Type R...so heII no.

this is true. all though let it be known, at the time i wanted a 00 GTS over my Si, so i DO like the car, just not this jackass who drives one and things its gods chariot. (although i wouldnt have waisted my time with the GT, and on that note if i wanted a 140hp toyota i would have gotten the MRS. at least its a REAL sports car)

You become stupider and stupider byt he minute.. I am just telling you Celica's performance like IT IS. It is you who think your Si is all that.. you think VTEC is answer to all questions. There is more to cars than VTEC buddy.

Also.. RWD helps in take off. It's a known fact that both Celica & MR2 both put the same amount of horsepower on the dyno. Look at the comparison between G35 and Maxima.. one is front, the other one is rear. Both uses same engine (G35 tuned for 260 instead of 255). Both put out similar numbers.

Just because a car is RWD doesn't mean it's going to shave off a whole second to 1/4 mile!

Damn...both of you are half right and half wrong..

The Celica GT has a fair bit more midrange power than the Si(R)...it does in fact have a closer gear ratio...going by peak HP-weight is just plain retarded..many of my friends have 15 second 4000lb cars with arounf 200HP thanks for chevy 305's lol..but have over 230ft.lbs of torque available at 1600Rpms..

4000lbs..200hp + 22.2 Lbs/Horsie.. and run mid 15's auto..

However HP at 3kRPms is about 170.. Much power available throughout the power band..and not just peanuts right through till upper midrange RPMS..them a fast spike of power..

The Si's run better 1/4 times with good drivers than Celica GT's.. the GT's have better highway "passing" power because of the better midrange power. the Si's have a higher top speed..more HP.. more open ended O/D gear..

I've seen Celica GT 5speeds run..usually high 15's.. GTS's run low 15's..sometimes I'll see a high 14 stock...

that 14.6 number was the best ever recorded number..it's by far NOT typical.. like the vette Z06 the fastest recorded time is .4 seconds faster that anyone else's...freak run with perfect weather for racing..

7th gen EX's with good driver on a good run "can" beat a Celica GT..car wise though..the Celica has more potential..

Also..the Celica is a sports car..the Civic is an econobox...the Celica's will kill civics in autocross and any track racing stock vs.stock..

2 cars designed for different driving..aimed at different crowds...who f%$king cares!!!!!

Well since everyone else is putting in their two cents I figured I'll put mine in too. Let me first start off by saying that Toyota Celica's blow. They are ugly and way over priced. I cant believe you are even comapring the two. Honda, with the civic, gives alot more options for the money you spend, power windows, power locks, little stuff like that. You gotta buy all that junk from toyota, it's not included. And those ugly *** stock body kits that are available for the celica's, geezus wtf was that guy smokin when he came up with that thing?? Could the wing get any bigger, it seriously looks like the car should be 10,000 ft up. Lastly, celica's are biitch cars. Only girls, or guys with vagina's drive them. 01coupe for even remotely liking those ugly, slow, overpriced, riced out things
