Celica GT
Not likely in straights and won't happen in the twisty.
Even the GT has more power at the wheel than an EX and weights like 200 lbs less than a LX. And that thing handles like it's on rails.
So...no.

My friend has a gt and he ran a 17.1 quarter mile(that was with a cold air intake and a custom cat-back exhaust). Its an auto though, so maybe that's why it isn't that quick. The gts is fast as hell though.

i wish i had that kind of handling. but i'm a daily commuter so i don't mind the "extra" smooth ride.

Naw.. my other car is a Celica GT, so I am giving you my unbias opinion.
I *TOY* with Civics in it.. I'm not joking.. in fact, I raced a 2000 Civic SiR Coupe (or Si in USA) on the highway today... gunned it to 215km/h, and I smoked it. That's TWO B16's I killed with it so far..
I've killed more impressive cars than Civics, including a Merecedes-Benz SLK240 Kompressor, Pontiac GrandPrix GT, NOSed Chevy S10 Xtreme, Honda Accord EX V6..
But as with all cars, there are s-hitty drivers that drive them... I actually saw a Celica GTS get killed by a 7th Gen Civic LX before. But the cars I mentioned above are autos, so there's no mistake.
I'm not the only one though, check out the posted times at www.newcelica.org
As for the mighty GTS, when driven had, they can break into 14's.. except the 2002 models, with the pre-mature rev limiter. 2001 & 2003 are ok.

i dunno where everyone is saying the gt model is faster than an ex...i mean i raced a new gt one night down at nathans. by third gear i was a half car length ahead. thing is it was an auto, i dont know about manual gt celecas.
can i plz know what u have in your car? and what yr? cause the new stock gt celicas would get crushed by those cars u listed.

My Celica GT is bone stock, except for TRD springs which actually helps launch it off the line a lot better (almonst no spin).
Those cars I listed are ALL run mid to high 15's 1/4mile, which is exactly what my Celica can run. Do you know how many times people have come up to me, and said "Holy s-hit you're car is fast!" They all get behind me to check out the badge then get shocked. I even beat this guy in a Prelude-SH with exhaust/intake.. and he thought I was BSing when I said it was a GT. He thought I rebadged it. But then I told him to check the GT-spec rims.
For those who THINK the Civic EX is quicker, let me tell you a few things.
Civic is consistantly rated SLOWER than the Corolla, which in turn is slower than the Celica (heavier, less HP, longer gearing). So I don't see how a Civic EX can "KILL" a Celica GT.
For those who are in doubt, check out the at wheel horsepower. Civic EX is rated only a couple more than an LX, and is around 102 or 103HPish. Celica GT is at 125HP (rated 140HP). It is EXTREMELY efficient. Couple that with over 200lb less mass, and MUCH more aggressive gearing (2nd gear arrives in an eyelash), and you have a faster car.
Of course, you have to know how to DRIVE it. Hell, I have beaten three 7th Gen Civic EX sticks in my LX AUTO. Heck, I even beat one in my 91 Corolla with 3-speed auto. So yeah, there are crummy drivers out there, which means you CAN beat the Celica GT. It's not a Porsche 911 Turbo, where you don't have a chance at all. But with the save drivers, it's definitely MUCh quicker.
Yes, I spanked B16s before... two different ones on the highway. Celica GT pulls harder than SiR (Si US-Spec)IMMEDIATELY.. up to 210km/h, I was pulling and ahead.. but after that it caught up and sloooowly passed me. We went a few more times after that, and all same result.
Anyway, I am just telling you guys on what I know, from owning both of the cars.. I didn't just race a Celica GT, got spanked, and coming on here to tell you how fast it was. I am telling you from driving both cars, pitting them against each other light to light...

I raced an automatic GT, as my car is 5sp Ex stock... Took it off the line, but it was pretty even til the end.... I think I won, I really dont know, so yeah its a close race... I hate doing rolling starts on 5spds vs automatic though, you never know wut gear they're in and when they're gonna punch it...

THANK YOU..........
I knew there would be other Celica owners out ther that can testify to 15's with Celica GTs.. something a STOCK Civic EX **CANNOT** do... people that don't even own one and that says their car is faster really pisses me off.

Celica GT 5spd is faster than a Civic EX. no doubt about in my mind.
I'm guessing almost .5 second faster in the quarter mile. thats a heck lot faster.
btw, stock EX 5spds dont dyno at 102, 103 hp at the wheel. thats LX. (unles I read wrong)... they dyno at around 110-113 hp.
as for Celica GTs, I havne't seen any 125 hp.. I ususally see 120-122. The ex is just as efficient.
the GTS is bad *** though. those things run like 160+ hp at the wheel (180 at the crank)
gearings on the autos suck. especially for the GTS, I mean, you're missing an entire gear! 1st to 2nd is fine, but the rest is like er.. what?
a 99-00 Si vs. a Celica GT is a decent math.. I think the Si is faster though, if driven properly.. I mean you got those crazy people out there doing low 15s on it stock, somehow. (and then there's those rumored high 14s on stock si -_- )

The gt may very well be faster in a controlled enviroment. However, out on the streets, .5secs is absolutely meaningless. A 5sp ex vs. 5sp gt is going to be won by the better driver, plain and simple. You can say that about any 2 cars that have performance numbers w/i a second of one another.
Yea, I got the argument that one car may actually be faster than the other. Although, out on the streets, you have a different driver in every car with different abilities. So, whether one is factually faster doesn't mean a darn thing.
Anyhow, I like toyotas too and think they are great cars. I just prefer hondas and the 6 that I have bought are testiment to that. Celica is a cute little racer if your a teenager though. Personally, I would take the rsx-s to the gts because it is more practical and quite frankly, has a much more mature look to it. Do I think it is the better car, yes. Do I think the celica is inferior, no.

I guess I might not be as good as a driver as I thought. I actually raced a Celica GT a couple hours ago and got my a$$ handed to me on a platter. That thing had a pretty good take off. The engine sounded pretty deep though, I wonder if it was modded (it looked stock to me)... Regardless, it was definitely faster.

There is no such thing as an Si/SiR automatic. On top of that The 99/00 Si/SiR Has a power peak of 7800 RPM. Given the gearing of said cars, with the afore mentioned powerband, you get a car that runs best in the top end. If its a highway race, its obviously from a roll, and at higher speeds. This would mean that launching is no longer a deciding factor, meaning that its Machine VS Machine unless there is a missed shift, or the fool didnt bother to drop it into the correct gear to start with. And given that, and numbers dont lie, there is no way a stock Celica GT is going to out accelerate a stock Si/SiR from a roll, at highway speeds. And I can tell you, that with equal drivers that GT isnt going to win from a dead stop either. Ive found out personally, repaeatdly.

Its a proven fact automatic GTS' run in the 16s.
"I'm not the only one though, check out the posted times at www.newcelica.org"
Ive met my fair share of ricer retards on that site.

I really dont see how any of those "cars" are more impressive thena civic, with the exception of perhaps the MBZ. And on that note, there is NO such thing as an "SLK 240". EVERY SLK in the MBZ line-up is listed here
SLK 200 Gasoline
SLK 200 Kompressor
SLK 200 ML
SLK 230 Kompressor
SLK 230 ML
SLK 32 AMG
SLK 320
Im willing to bet you out launched the automatic slush box from a stop and shut down before it could play catch up... that is assuming you are just confused about what car you "raced", and not a lair.

I've killed more impressive cars than Civics, including a Merecedes-Benz SLK240 Kompressor, Pontiac GrandPrix GT, NOSed Chevy S10 Xtreme, Honda Accord EX V6.."
