Celica or Civic?

You could buy a toyota celica GT for about 1000 to 1500 more than a Civic EX. With it, you get 10 more hp as well as torque. Of course, it would be the most economic (cheap) version, but it will at least get more attention than a civic (both stock of course) I think. Toyota is also a great company imo. Just asking for your input guys.

celica specs

Civic specs

btw, I am very happy with my civic. I just see it every damn where.

well, if you wanna be different, the Si's are selling pretty low everywhere now. You should be able to get one for about the same price as a Celica GT.

I'm also going to go Civic, Honda pioniered VTEC and I'm not so sure I would trust toyotas vvt-i, not that I would think it would break down or anything, I just feel better with the vtec
Plus I think the civic looks nicer, and it promises to be more highly targeted by after market companies

Yeah the Si's aren't selling anywhere I've never ever seen one on the streets. Only at the dealerships..

Anyways back to your question
I think its comes down to personal reference. Not everyone is a "streetracer" maybe some people just want a car that is nice and runs good (stock) So I don't know IMO its just personal reference

i would definitely trust the vvtl-i. valve timing's been around for many years, anyway, so it's not exactly a new concept. plenty of other companies have done it already, including toyota. i don't think the celica's aftermarket would be weaker than the civic's, since they have such a strong following already. if i could get a celica that's comparably equipped to a EX (maybe minus the sunroof) for a small amount more, i'd get that. hey, i see celicas everywhere too, so getting one wouldn't make you any more unique if you wanna be unique, get a mini

ok well, im a mechanic 4 toyota, but i bought a civic! only reason, price!! the celica gt is a good car, and yes the vvt-i is VERY reliable! if i bought a celica i wouldn't dare buy the gt, jus cuz the GT-S is soo much better and its got vvtl-i which is dope!! the celicas are not slow! but the GT vs SI would be a dope race!! but the GT-S would smoke an SI like a joint and would chuck it like a roach!!

I gotta agree with Dragoon. I see as many Celicas as Civics. I don't see alot of the Celica GTS, but that's another story. In my personal opinion the Celica feels and looks alittle more sporty.

CIVIC SI.......its all in the potential....that's why the tuner universe revolves around honda......the new SI has the most build-up potential of any stock civic ever produced.....in stock trim, it may not be the fastest car for the money, but in my opinion, apart from needing a better wheel and tire combo, it definatley kicks but inside and out..........

i definately agree with you, but the complete base model starts at a little over 26k, thats a little bit of a jump for comparative reasons...if youre going to compare a nissan that is comprable in price and faster have to go with the spec v. although nissan has really reinvented itself, they dont have a slow car out on the road these days.

Well...yeah...but so are Civics, for that matter. Twenty-something females ARE the target demographic for Civic, you know.

OK heres how the rating scale goes (new date), girl drives car, 5 (sexy)bonus points for driving, girl pulls up in honda 10 points, girl pulls up in honda civic 20 bonus points, girl pulls up in civic lowered, exhaust, rims, intake, ten minutes later ask her to marry you. HEHE sorry but i dont really care if a girl is fugly, if she dirves a nice honda, maybe not even new but it is suped up then i like her becuase we definetely share the same interests, but unfortunately in fwb all the chicks who drive hondas are dykes, really no joke, and back on the topic i would get a celica GT-s in my opinions a celice with rims and bodykit looks cleaner than a civic, but i like civics all around, wont buy anything else other than a honda ever agian, except maybe a nissan, they good now a days, DID YOU SEE THE COMPRESSION RATIO ON THE CELICA??
Edit: compression on the gts that is

11.5 to 1. yup. that's really high, but it makes power. i bought a celica gt-s in july of 2000. i love it! As far as transmissions? well, i haven't had a problem. i think most problems with the gt-s are the drivers. it does take a little getting used to a six speed. the only real complaint that i have with my celica is that toyota used the CRAPPIEST belt tensioner ever!!! I've been through 3 so far. other than that, i can't complain too much. my car handles like a champ in the twisties, and gives V-8's a GOOD run for their money in the straight line. even beat a few from time to time. The interior of the celica is just amazing! feels very much ahead of it's time. and the shifter is just there! you know? when i sit in the car, it's in just the right spot. i don't have to reach for it. here's a pic of my interior.

It all depends on what you want though. i know for me, it was celica all the way baby!!!

I would choose a Civic EX over a Celica GT, but not over a Celica GTS.

I would go for the Celica GT AND i would of got it but just when I was about to order it, my insurance quote was $9000.00 CAN alone and $7000.00 CAN w/ parents.

I asked the insurance company and they said it's that expensive because it's a SPORTS COUPE and ALOT OF KIDS are ramming their cars into everything.!!!! This is what happens when parents buy their son a sports car.. sky rocket the insurance for everyone. dammmmmmn.

I got my Civic EX (SI) for $25500 CAN and the Celica would of cost me $32000 which is approximately
$4000 US more. =(

I CAN STILL BUY my cousin's Celica but it's all about the insurance, too high and it's not worth it. I basically drive my car to buy groceries and eat lunch.

You are so f***ing on crack cocaine. How can you say the Civic is faster than the Celica? That's like saying a Kia Rio is faster than the Civic. Dumb ***.

I own both cars. Celica is ***WAY*** faster. Don't believe MY words. Check the stats.

Damn... last night, I raced a new Grand Prix GT (3.8L V6, 200HP). With my Celica GT. I beat it by 2 car lengths. BTW, Grand Prix GT's last test scores were 7.6s 0-60mph.

I would've gotten CREAMED if I had my Civic with me.

Fact of the matter is, I can break into 15's easy with my 140HP Celica GT. It is light, short gearing, and engine is torque. I'd be LUCKY if I can get that with the Civic.. maybe after a CAI, exhaust and Cams, I MIGHT get there. Think about it.

*

Anyway, to the guy who asked the question to begin with...

You are cross shopping for wrong cars. Civic is an econo coupe.. and for comfort and convenience, you can't beat it. Let's face it. Civic is the best selling econo car for a good reason. It saves you money!! Gas, insurance, resale, maintence... you name it.

Celica on the other hand is a sporty 2+2 coupe. Very small back seat (much like a Prelude). But it handles extremely well (out does RSX, trust me.. read mags if you dont believe me). Brakes are world class (will outbrake all Acuras except NSX, out brakes BMWs, etc). It's very light an nimble. Ride on the other hand is unforgiving. Much like a slammed Civic. Ergonomics are a little funny (centre console window buttons). Not much fun to be in for long trips (sport seats are a pain).

I am guessing you are in a market for a sporty car. If so, get the Celica... or if you must go Honda, then RSX. Civic is more of a Corolla contender, not a Celica. Trust me.

Oh yeah, you really shouldn't ask Civic VS Celica questions on a Civic site.. you might as well walk into the Pepsi headoffice and ask them if Pepsi really tastes better than Coke.

Civic EX vs. Celica GT... I've had bad experiences with Celica GTs... been cut off by more than enough... been "intimidated" and at the same time almost in an accident with one... I f&^ing hate Celica GTs. I'm convinced only assh*l#s and manginas drive these cars. In fact, I think that was the first car I tried to race against. So what if it gets 13 more HP. You can't really feel a 10 HP difference.

The Celica GT-S compares to the RSX Type S, and I'd get the Type S just cuz it has 15 more HP.

The RWD Celicas were nice.

EDIT: You can break 15s in a Civic stock if you know how to drive. With cam gears, intake, some GOOD headers, and exhaust mid 15s should be easy. But I will agree the GT does have a SLIGHT advantage being that it starts out with more HP than an EX Civic.

I hate how people just say " Get the CIVIC it's better" with nothing to back them up as to which aspect is better. Sure each have their pro's and con's, but it all depends on which ones you're looking at. Civic EX faster than Celica GT? I believe the Driver would determine the outcomes as the specs are only marginal. On a twisty windy road, the Celica would win hands down. On a "how far can your car go on one tank of gas?" the civic would win.

So to say "Civic is faster" is pure ignorance. To say Civic has more aftermarket support? Look again.
