Need help with a part
Need help with a part
Hi guys and girls my name is Max. I have a difficult question to ask knowledgeable members, I need your wisdom and experience to tell me which vehicle can use the below part number. 15830-RBB-003 It is a variable valve control solenoid.
I have found various info on eBay and auto parts website but nothing concrete to be sure of.
If anyone can help me figure out the exact vehicle list that this part will fit on I would be extremely thankful.
Right now I have the following
Civic 2.0 from 2007-2011
Civic 2.4 from 2012- 2015
CR-V from 2005-2017
I am not 100% sure this is accurate and if the Accord uses the same part.

Re: Need help with a part
Looks like it'll only fit into an 06-11 Civic Si and 05-11 CRV. As a direct drop-in, of course. Dunno if you can retrofit it to work on other platforms. Highly likely not

Re: Need help with a part
06-11 used the K20Z3 engine (2.0L)
12-15 used the K24Z7 engine (2.4L)
And for consistency's sake,
the CR-V also used a K24Z engine (-Z1, -Z4, and -Z6, all 2.4L)

Re: Need help with a part
How much does a OEM cost now days and is it difficult to replace?
Does the Honda Accord also use this part or any other vehicle? Acura?
Thanks in advanced! I really appreciate the knowledge!

Re: Need help with a part
Thanks for the help, it dosent say anything regarding Acura. I'll see if I can find the infomation somewhere.
Thank you for being patient and answering my question. Really helped!
One last note, it mentioned for civics only manual transmission? Is that accurate?
I remember my ex-gf civic coupe 2014ish was a CVT. I'm from Canada by the way, would that have any influence?

Re: Need help with a part
Vehicle fitment list showed 05-11 CR-Vs
No mention of the accord. Makes sense because the first year they used a similar engine in the accord as any other model (at least in the NA market) was the current generation with the 1.5T (similar engine -- small differences -- to the Civic and CR-V) or the 2.0T (engine based on the FK8 CTR)
Acura applications for that part:
13-15 ILX (2.4L)
07-12 RDX (2.3L)
05-06 RSX (2.0L)
04-14 TSX (2.4L)
the MT part, it's because that part seems to fit only 06-15 K20 or K24 equipped Civic Si models, and the Si only comes with a MT. The other trims for the 06-15 Civics came equipped with the R-series engine

Re: Need help with a part
I see! So only the base manual transmission Civic came with the engine that the part will fit in. The CVT automatic transmission ones will not fit correct.
On the CR-V they are automatic transmission but will fit this part.
Thank you very much for the Acura vehicle list. It was really helpful.

Re: Need help with a part
Not the base model. Specifically the Si. It's pretty much the top tier model (well, until they reintroduced the Type R)
Re: Need help with a part
I remembered the Civic she had even had steering wheel shifters. Which was surprisingly fast, even felt faster then a DSG. it was when i drove in normal mode i realised the speed increase but not rev speed= CVT
So i guess these are the vehicles the part fit, i will do a summarize of the findings so future members can find the information easily. It's a shame that this part won't fit on more populated models such as the Type R engine.

Re: Need help with a part
It's due to the engine design, not necessarily what tranny it's mated up with, especially since it's the VTC control valve.
Just a case in point kinda deal:
My sister's 2009 Honda Fit Sport has an L15A engine. L-series, 1.5L engine. My 2018 Civic Sport Hatch also has an L-series 1.5L engine, but that's about where the similarities end. Her 1.5L is a naturally aspirated engine, designed way different than my 1.5L turbo, despite both of them being L-series engines.
The part you're asking about pretty much only fits certain K-series engines, some K20s, some K24s, and the K23 in the RDX. The K20 in the new Civic Type R and the latest iteration of the Accord is designed way different than the K20 engines found in previous generations.
Now the part that confuses me about the vehicle fitment lists that I'm looking at. It says 05-06 RSX (both base and type-s) which used the K20A3 and K20A2, respectively. The 2002-2005 Civic Si also used the K20A3 engine, the very same as the RSX base, but is not listed as an applicable vehicle for the part number in question.

Re: Need help with a part
Thank you for the detailed response! Your discrption of it being the same engine but not listed was the reason I was so confused and find the need to openly ask this question.
I found different info everytime I look at a list, some is missing from the other and some lists had vehicles that the other list did not have.
I am very curious why that is the case. More importantly that is why I would like to make a detailed list for future reference.
I think the reason for this is no one ever actually did it by systemic reference check, they copied the list from another and adding vehicles as they go. My last resort is to write honda a email and ask them for the list... I will try to compile a list for what info you have supplied. And maybe cross reference with the parts shop. What do you think? What would be the best way to get to the bottom of it?
