Hello, could someone tell me what the 6th digit in the VIN indicates? Reason I ask is that I need to replace the engine and the local yard has a low mileage 2014 engine only available. I noticed while searching on eBay that the engines state 6th digit either a "2" or "3". Well my car is a 2 while the available motor is a 3 and I'd like to know the difference and what else may need to be changed if I in fact purchase said engine. I did look up the VIN and my car was ma ufactured in Indiana while the donor engine comes from Canada.

Re: 2012 Civic VIN?
You probably only need the engine code. Maybe R18Z1 ? (I'm too lazy to go open the hood of my 12 and look LOL)
Find your engine code stamped in this area (pic below)
The 6th digit in the VIN usually doesn’t directly define the physical engine block or bellhousing pattern; it’s typically part of the manufacturer’s internal coding for body style, series, or configuration, while the 8th digit is more commonly the true engine identifier. A “2” vs “3” in the 6th position often reflects production differences (market, trim, or assembly plant like US vs Canada) rather than a different engine casting.
