Need help finding VIN Number on 99 civic ex motor

I am doing an engine swap here in California and i need to find the correct vin number on my new engine in order to get the right cpu. The VIN number on the dashboard is not the same for the new motor, and I cant find where to look for it on the motor itself. Any help would be appreciated.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Need help finding VIN Number on 99 civic ex motor

The only VIN that will ever match is the original block that came in YOUR car.

Your replacement engine was supposed to be the exact same engine code as the original engine. Your ECM won't know or care that the engine got replaced, as long as that replacement engine is exactly the same as original.
If your replacement engine isn't the exact same configuration as what the test station expects to see based on the cars VIN, you may fail the visual inspection.

Engine code location in pic below.
Your original may have been a D16Y8 engine. Is the new engine the same?

the new engine is a d16y8 (with vtec) converted from a d16y7 (non vtec) . I called the honda dealership for parts and they were requiring a vin from the new engine

Look on the backside (intake side) of the engine. I can't tell you for sure on the D16s, but on the D17s there's a VIN plate on the back.
