now car alarms are useless
new technology is enabling thieves to use your own keyless entry or alarm remote to open the car they want to steal. the kits are available for around $100 and use a passive emitter to make your keyless remote transmit an unlock signal to the car. this can be accomplished far away from your car like when you are in a supermarket shopping. and it is completely different from past "code-grabbing" devices, where you had to press the keyless remote to be able to grab a signal. the new device works even without activation of the keyless remote, making it a very dangerous tool. not as much of a problem for civics (since the thief still has to figure out how to get the car started), but a serious problem for cars with push button start. but even with civics, it is very easy for a theif to unlock your car and steal everything inside, even if they leave the car and not bother with hotwiring. i suggest everyone get an RF shielded bag to protect your keyless entry or alarm remote. it is a small wallet size pouch for your keys, just slip them inside and in your pocket. it shields the keyless remote from transmitting or receiving RF signals.

Re: now car alarms are useless
I guess it works the same way as hacking...packet editing
You record a packet, edit it, and send it back
Sort of same way as hacking electric garage openers too.
If you get the pouch, I would advise you to put your credit cards in there too, especially the ones where you just wave it to pay
There are new technology out there, where pickpockets dont even have to pick your pocket, they just walk past you with a scanner and will pick up all the details of your CC.

I got one of those touch pay cards, but it stopped wroking after the first time I tried to use it. Dunno if a magnet touched it or what, but its been dead.
Good looking on the pouch- seems more like a thing you'd put your keys in every night while sleeping instead of carrying with you everywhere.

Lol. Come on now. You know Jersey isn't any better. So this device uses the signal from your keyless remote? That's crazy. Guess I should get one of those bags or toss the battery on mine. Haha.

Re: now car alarms are useless
most stolen cars every year are hondas and toyotas. luxury cars are for pros and hardly ever make the list of top stolen. and the people stealing those cars dont need this device. i have a feeling this one is more for the rookies looking for an easy steal (no breaking in or hotwiring).
Re: now car alarms are useless
ok so your out in public some where and they scan your pocket how the hell are going to know what car you drive and where the car is ??? wouldent be easier to smash and grab your ****.id be more concerned about getting struck by lightning then this thing.

Re: now car alarms are useless
thieves are smart, if they see a car they like they will even follow you then wait til you leave the car. ive seen it happen so many times. if you want to make a clean getaway, you dont go throwing bricks at ppls cars esp during the day. its very easy tho to open someones door with the remote, climb in, and drive away. with how cheap they are, i may even buy one of the device and play with it (not stealing cars lol). all they have to do is drive to a walmart or other shopping center and watch newcoming cars. there are cars parking non stop every second. its like shopping. you wait in your car, and if you see a car pull up that you like, go follow the owner inside while your buddy stays by the car ready to hop in once they transmit the unlock code. ofcourse the best cars would be the ones with push button start.
Re: now car alarms are useless
If they want it they will get it no matter what kind of alarm or security system you have, they can just use a flat bed and dont even need the car to run.
Re: now car alarms are useless
lol ! ya that's all i keep in my car too. i also always leave my trunk in the locked setting. does this actually help or can you just rip off that little plastic key peice and open the trunk with your hand still? and i know if someone really wanted in the trunk they could break the lock on the trunk, but at least thwey'd have to put some effort in.

Re: now car alarms are useless
you can take off the screw holding the key hole assembly and just cut the cord to pull it manually. i had to do that when i tried to lock it and it wouldnt unlock. you can take the whole thing apart and basically dismantle it into pieces until you can just turn the rod with your fingers. thats why i dont have my trunk cable hooked up and i ripped out the rear seat lock too. only way in the trunk is my keyless remote haha. no keyhole on the trunk either to pick. if someone did happen to find their way in, all they will get is a $10 cargo net lol.

Re: now car alarms are useless
All they need to do is pull the lock cylinder out with a screwdriver and they can pull the lever. My lock cylinder broke, so I popped it out with a screwdriver and it took me maybe thirty seconds.
If you keep expensive things in your trunk then best thing to do would be remove the cable and install an accord electric trunk popper.
