My womans car
My womans car
My woman just purchassed a used 04 EX, she's allways complaining about my spending habits with my car
, so I figured I would get her some goodies (x-Mas is coming
). Looking for CAI, headers (CEL friendly), CAT-Back (nothing too loud and minimal highway drone), and shortshifter. Been searching, lost of info to sift through. Any suggestions, personal impressions would be great.

hum. are you looking for power or sound? because these will net you none. with the money spent on those mods, your half way to a turbo kit.
but since you asked, heres my list if i could do it all over again
Injen RD Series Intake-you can convert from CAI to short-ram or vice versa
DC Sport 4-1 Header-since these are the only ones that dont throw a cel and is carb legal
Greddy WSII or Apexi WS exhaust-small tip and canister, stylish, and mininal drone
B&M SS

dont get aemv2, its a waste of money for just sound...there are ebay intakes that do the same exact thing but wont have an aemv2 sticker on it. Weapon R is nice, i would suggest that one.
for the exhaust i would get apexi WS2, hi power might be a little too loud and it sits on an angle which i think looks really stupid.

intake - pretty much any AEM (sri, including the v2 or cai) works.. it'll all give the same "gains".. if you get a true cold air intake (takes suction close to the ground), get a bypass valve too.. it'll help save your car from possible hydrolock if you drive over a big puddle
header - personally, i liked my kamikaze header (til i went turbo, lol), but dc sports works too.. bolt ons dont do much for performance, more for looks and sound... any header you get for an ex should be CEL friendly.. as long as you make sure it mates to the downpipe correctly and keep your factory downpipe with the cat and both o2 sensors, you should be good to go. on a dx/lx, however, you remove the catalytic converter with an aftermarket header..
cat back - rs*r exmag, apex'i ws/wsII.. search.. you'll find "rate your intake/exhaust" threads and get some good ideas..

man, this is great to see a threat thats not about going turbo!
Sorry to be with the entire AEM crowd, but if you look at gains between Injen and AEM, AEM beats them any time. (talking about the V2 more specifically). You might be able to find one from someone on here thats used. Only issue might be the filter. I've had mine in for a few months and it still looks brand new.
dont know too much about the other stuff because I cant talk from experience. But good luck- I hope she catches the upgrade bug too- women just dont understand!!

intake... get which ever one you like or is cheaper, cuz they all do the same thing. i'd personally keep it stock airbox, cuz with an intake it feels like i lose power starting.
whatever you do dont get dc headers. they have fitment problems
exhaust.. i'm thinking about getting the apexi ws2 cuz it's low key compared to exhausts like the hi power or evo2 even i guess.

Intake doesn't matter which one.
Not real sure since I don't have one and won't get one.
Cat-back I'd say Apexi WS since it's an EX or I have magnaflow and I love it. It's decently loud but you'll have to have the radio off to hear it. Nice and deep between 1600-1800 too.

The Megan Racing catback sounds pretty good, but I've heard that it's pretty loud on the highway.
Intake - WeaponR Secret. Can't be beat for the price.

Check what I did below!
All very easy to install + my car is so fun to drive because of the different sounds & feeling,
weeeeee!
I love my baby
...wait, do girls like hearing the engine or having a stiffer shifter? maybe she actually would prefer no mods at all...

As far as "power" parts... I'd argue that an exaust is pretty much worthless, as is a header. Given that I've gone from stock, to DC header + Greddy exaust and back to stock, and never noticed any power differences... (It sure got loud though, its nice and quiet now) and thats on an 01 Ex coupe.
) so maybe two, a corroded electrical connection for the Haldex control unit (under the car so I wasn't too supprisedMaintance kinda sucks too, 6qt of full sync oil avg. $35 (w5-40, hard to find sometimes) and a $12 oil filter. And tires 3rd set in two years (about ready for another set)
Other than that car is great. Got to pay to play...
