Rep Power: 0 I know nothing about reliablity or how one car falls apart better than the other one. Do the research and get what you like. My friend just got a mazda 3 and she loves it even though some idiot wrecked into her (car is still driveable). I'd stick with 4 cyl. though thats just me. The mazda speed6 looks pretty cool not sure what kind of numbers those can put down but it's AWD.

I think there's also a car from Volvo that borrows from the 3 platform, but I could be mistaken.

Rep Power: 276 Your right, the S40 is based on the 3/Focus platform. The original Mazda3 was based on the Ford C-Max minivan in Europe (pretty much a Mazda3 5-door) which was developed at the same time as the new Focus as part of the Ford C1 platform.
