Yeah, damn North American manufactured cars. Where is the Civic made again? I keep forgetting...

I work at a Nissan dealership and i do the warranty claims. So i see the **** thats wrong with them. Whatever you do, don't buy anything with a 2.5 liter motor. The altima 2.5 and the spec V, are plagued with engine problems. From intake butterfies in the runners of the intake manifold coming loose to the spec V catconverters being sucked back into the motors. Big recall on that, check ou the TSB bulletins. The Xtrail with thatmotor is the only one thatis built in Japan. The rest state side and in mexico. The maxima is awsome, little problems with interior trim, nothing big. THe big thing right now is the rear subframe recall on altimas 02-05 and maxima 04-up. Trucks are ok with sub harness recall and VDc reprograms. Infinti g35 does have suspension problem, but if driven well a great car. Honda has some problems but its usuallly esthetics, not a MOTOR. Esthetics are cheap when out of waranty!! If you see cheap a spec v, theres a reason the motor probably burn 2 litres of oil every 1K. The older Nissans were better built.

Rep Power: 0 ^seems like lots of people are saying that about older nissans were better, My Z was 86 and the Sentra SE_R was early ninety's, can't remember. Both cars were just as bullet proof as my current civic

ive always considered honda's the cars that were made for track racing, and nissans the drag cars. my stock 92 gsr handled better then my friend's 91 G20 with his tuned suspension. well, they actually handled almost identically, but i didnt have a stupidly rough ride. on the other hand, that thing was stupidly fast for what it was.

Rep Power: 320 ^^^ I can definately see where you got that consideration.... the Z32 and ALL GT-R's were heavy but can be made to handle huge power! Honda is more about lightweight and agile..... aside from the heavy Prelude (which still handled pretty good).

Love nissan, been a huge fan since sliced bread.
98 Sentra SE - Ran good and motor was tuff! Love that lil car!
2001 Sentra SE (Sr20) - This car took a beating by me and I wanted to turbo it sooooooooo bad, but parents wouldn't let me. Fun car and handle pretty good.
04 G35 - What can I say, this car is amazing. Engine is sooo incrediable, one of the best if not thee best sounding v6 on the market!

I like Nissans, had good experience with them. The only problem and something I never liked about them is interior trim quality, it looks cheap and deteriorates faster than other brands.

when nissan brought back the spec-v they had a lot of problems with blown engines. and i mean a LOT. i was told the redline was too high for one thing, and i know that was lowered. i test drove the 02, insane torque steering, interior looked cheap, but it was a fun car to drive and i kinda regret not buying it since my civic is so damn slow. i just knew i was going to have problems with that engine. normal sentra's are ugly as hell IMO

Anyone ever had any experience with one or knew someone that did? Just wondering how realiable they are in comparison with a Honda vehicle. Thanks.
They should be fairly solid and good performant.
But I received a couple of complain about their Sentra. Not too sure if it is coincidence or not, they happen to be made in Mexico also.

From - 2006 Consumer Report
Of the 31 cars that earned the top rating, only two were from U.S.-based manufacturers -- the remaining 29 vehicles were from Japanese automakers, and none represented European brands. Almost half of the top 31 -- 15 vehicles -- were manufactured by Toyota.
Of the vehicles with the worst reliability, 22 were from U.S.-based manufacturers, 20 from European brands, four from Japanese makers and two from South Korean companies. Four Nissan cars -- the Nissan Quest, Armada and Titan and and Infiniti QX56 -- landed on the list of worst for predicted reliability.

The Nissan VQ engine (the 3.5 liter V6 they put in almost everything) is a very acclaimed and reliable engine.
And Nissan recently got out of financial troubles actually (their new CEO really turned the company around, focusing on getting out new and modern designs).

they used to be about 6600 or so, but it was dropped to 6200 because of the blown engine issues. im not sure what the exact number used to be, i just remember thinking it wasnt a big difference. the truth it their max power was at 6000 RPM, so revving any higher wasnt really worth it anyways.
nissan's strong point really is that 3.5 litre engine though. its wins awards left right and centre. awesome engine plain and simple. that altima SE-R is some damn good stuff too. i saw one beat a 350Z, but that was probly just the driver since the 350 has more power and less weight...

My mom has an 02 Altima and its awesome. Haven't had any problems with it besides a dead battery. Plus my neighbors have an 04 Maxima and my others have 01-03 Maxima and the like them too. I would personally have a Nissan over a Toyota, but thats just me.

I've only driven an 05 altima once, it was a rental. It has pretty good acceleration and brakes compared to compacts that Im used to driving. But the interior dash felt and looked cheap. Cant really tell from driving it for one day tho but the engine was smooth.
