no more modding?
Well my rents didnt want me to do anyhting to the car. after about 3 months i had lowered it, rims, intake, header, full exhuast. pulleys cam gear. then 5 months form then i bought a turbo kit. they suyre as hell werent too happy about that but they got over it. i pay for it and everything i do but they thinki should save my money instead of investing it in my car. building a motor now.

My parents used to hassle me about me modding my EL. But hey, it's in MY name, I bought it with my own money, I pay my own insurance on it, and I don't live with them anymore. HAH!
Now whenever I visit they ask me what new stuff I've done and my dad asks me to work on his teg. My mom still hassles me over the number of rims I go through though.
If the car is yours and you're paying for all of it plus it's in your name, then go ahead and do what you want with your car, as long as it doesn't infringe on your parents (ie you're not piling stuff in their garage or excessively borrowing their car while yours is on jackstands). But if your parents are involved at all with the car by paying for some piece of it or the insurance, then respect them and stop modding it.....so you can save money and buy your own.

Both my parents drive SUV's..so when i lowered my car, it doesnt seem low to them becuase to them, anything not an SUV is low. So they didnt even notice my drop..hah..my uncle asked my dad if i lowered my car, and my dad was like, "huh? no..its original"..lol
Yeah the rents sure now how to make you feel like crap. I can't relate to your story exactly, except the first PC we had, it was families, but I upgraded it, so now whose is it? No one knows.
I bought my car, new none-the-less, dad was pissed cuz I live at home and somehow reasoned it to sound like I blew money I "normally" wouldn't have if I didn't live at home and gave me grief... he never had luxury to buy a new car, blah blah blah.
Then I started modding. Again, the spanish inquisition. They only got a "told ya so" complex when I got fined for some of it, (damn damn damn).
Now I try to time mods when they're not home, it's none of their business how much it costs me and whether or not the car is fully paid off yet. But ofcourse Murphy's Friggin Law - they were totally in the loop when my car was in the shop, like they had nothing better to do but ask all these questions.
But I think they accepted it finally, I caught them stepping outside one morning to check it all out and nodding to themselves approvingly. I know my dad can appreciate a nice set of rims cuz of my sister's GT (which was written-off, and cut me some slack, thanks sis) ...they make trips to the states and see all you California Civic owners
I think the turning point is when they see you are genuinely interested in this, it's not just a passing phase, you work hard for your money so you're not completely reckless and not behind on any payments. It's an expensive hobby/interest but certainly not the worst one. I may not clean my room as often as I clean my car, but I do clean my car and they like to see me looking after something I'm proud to own.
Anyways, sorry about the long story but hope it helps, at least you know many of us come under fire from parents regardless of our life situation, but stick in there and you'll see that they'll accept it eventually, and I hope--not too late--in your case.

My parents never cared at all...they would actually help me pick out things and give me opinions, and my dad literally helped me do everything to my car...
you live once, I like doing this **** to my car, and they understand this...Im at a point in my life where I CAN afford to have my fun with this car...again they understand and agree...
I guess I got lucky...my dad does body work and is a painter 20 years experience, so its probably more fun for him since he never got to have fun with his own car when he was young...damn my dad had a kid and wife by 18...they started young...so I guess he wants me to have and do what he couldnt...
and another thing, Im 22, its my car, paid, insured, all by me...they understand its my money and my choice...

well, they're trying to cut a deal w/ me. i had a couple of G's in my account but they have told me to save it to pay for college so the deal is now...save up 3g's and they'll put in 3g's...so i guess i should be thankful for this. after all, my dad makes 8 bux a hour and mom makes 14 bux a hour so 3g's is a crap load to them...but yea, i guess ill hold off my ambition. but its been fun w/ all you 7thgen'ers. thanks for all the great times and support. but now atleast i can shift my focus onto getting a new car and work toward that.
i bought my car i paid for everything the car insurance, the down payment, every payment, and all the mods. i have a govt job so i will retire at 55 with a pension. i work at unemployment so unless star trek happens i am safe. i go to college full time and never hit them up for money. but my mom still likes to question why i do it. my dad on the other hand he had a mercury cyclone with a 390 in it so he understands the need to work on a perfectly good car to make it more perfect.
i buy all my parts used off this site. so far from what i can tell i could sale all my mods and actually come out in the green.

Well a twin bed, with a futon on top fits perfectly in the back of an S10, so a F150, I would guess full size bed. And believe it or not, the bed is more comfy in the truck, than in the house. (Homeless for a few months when my dad moved to GA, and I wanted to stay in MI)

my parents give me **** all the time about doing stuff 2 my car. but i flat out told my mom looks when i started spending serious money on my car i stopped doing drugs all the time. (i used to have a very very serious drug addiction) so she just kinda left me alone about it. but she does get on me when i spend all my money on my car
