Turbo MR2 vs the CURB. pics. 56K mayyybeee.

It was raining and the roads were wet. It was around 1:30am, i was waiting for my buddy to get to my house before we get to the casino. At around 1:45 i get a call from him to walk outside my house, and run down the street.

It turns out, when he had turned onto my street on the straight, he gassed, the turbo kicked in, and he lost control, hit the curb and spun out 10 metres away from where he hit the curb, he did a 520 then stopped. It happened in a split second, he really didnt have time for anything.

Thats where he had hit his car..you can see a piece of his lip on the curb.

Theres the front end, with 3/4 of the lip broken off...but trust me..thats not the end of it...

voila..a rim..BROKEN right off..

another beautiful view..

..yeah..

i cant really say more about this pic..

Nobody was harmed, everyone is ok. Just a little shaken up, especially my other frend who was just behind him witnessing all of this. We called the CAA and towed it onto my driveway..the tower person was a really nice guy, he only charged about 30 bucks..

My friend with the MR2 stayed home, and most of us still went to the casino..we all ended up losing money, i lost 60 bucks..but oh well.

..what a night..

Wow that sucks. Looks like the suspension didnt get much damage since the wheel snapped off so cleanly.

I’ve seen that happen about a dozen times to rims that hit curbs at considerable speed and a 90* angle.

Too bad I don’t have the video of the moron MR2 driver who tried to burn out, managed to get sideways, popped the curb, sidewalk and small hill then proceeded into a parking lot where he smashed into an ITR.

That’s on my other 'puter.

LOL I guess its something about the owners.

People who don’t know how to drive such cars should stay away from rear engine, rear wheel drive, torquey cars ESPECIALLY in the wet. A good driver would know where boost builds and how snap over-steer is to be expected with such a drive wheel/weight distributed automobile.

Sucks for your friend. MR2 parts are $$$ or hard to come by. I always wanted one, but I think id rather get a newer MRS and either stick a GTS 1.8 180BHP 4cyl/6spd in it or turdb0 the stock 4. THAT would be t3h OWN.

!!! OHH, are you talking about the video where he almost hit the ITR, a pole, but missed both and smashed into the Jetta? I dont recall him hitting the ITR tho, but he was close, missed it by like inches...

that's a classic video.

anyway, your buddy is oddly lucky the wheel was so weak...

throw a new one and and take it to the alignment shop to see if anything is off.

He may have gotten lucky and by breaking the rim possibly avoided any major suspension damage.
